Default backfire

started the car up today after sitting for about 4 to 6 weeks, and had a back fire with rough idle for a couple of minutes. Let it idle, then drove it to temp. At first, ran rough, but then it ran fine after awhile. When I put it away last month, I added Stabil to the fuel tank. I keep the tank full when the car is stored.
Thoughts?

Disconnect to battery for 10 minutes, then drive the car as you normally would to reset the ECU mapping.

Why?

It'll remap itself from driving it from the mapping its currently at.

Its not a hard fixed value. LT/ST trims...trim. Whether from 0 or from a previous +/-5%...

I wouldnt place mapping as the issue..could have been moisture somewhere (I get this inside my dist caps a lot this time of year many days of the week) or who knows.

But..it cleaned out.

Im curious to hear what is hard coded that requires a clearing. Hmm..

Unless I'm mistaken, Ed's talking about Blu-max, his '78 k-jet car.

I didn't see any mention of you having the battery on a maintainer while it sat for 4 to 6 weeks. Could the battery voltage have been low when you first started the car?

Went lean for some reason....crud in an injector can do it. Or in the distributor head....

you may have a sticky injector hint add about 6 oz of MMo to the fuel and then run it for a few miles.

You are right Joel

Actually, I think the problem might have been moisture in the system? After reading the E15 thread, I could have put some E10 in, and maybe that caused an issue. I hate that stuff and try to avoid it. As to injectors, just replaced them recently with the new MB shorties, so should not be an issue there. Also, the battery charge is good.

Ed,
Apparently we have a couple stations close to us that sell E0 fuel.
Per pure-gas.org

Butler - Planet Mart - 204 E Kittanning St
Mars - Purvis Fuels - 321 Mars-Vanencia Rd
Saxonburg - Planet Mart - 494 North Pike Rd

I'm going to check out the station in Mars tonight. I'll let you know.
