Default Header fitment question

I just received my new headers today and I thought I would test fit them.
The first set had the wrong flanges welded on. On these the hole spacing seems to be slightly off. How hard should it be to put these on? I think I would have to use a rubber mallet to seat them. Also how flat should the sealing surface on the flanges be? There is weld-thruogh on three of the flanges on one of the headers.

mine i have to wiggle the flanges a little. but no need to beat them. flat enough for the gasket to still work.

This is more than a wiggle.

Is that dent in the first picture from the factory?
Dare I ask where you bought them?

Yes it is I believe it's for clearance of the steering shaft. I don't want to get that one started on the purchase.

A new set of pipes should fit without having to hit them with anything.

They are going to need to be really flat to seal against the stock gaskets.

Where is that thread about why headers for these cars cost so much?

wish the dent in my headers was a bit deeper.

when turning to the right under throttle I get a little noise through the steering column when the shaft apparently touches the header. didn't see that when putting the rack back into place.

need to get in there and see what I can do to increase clearance without R&R them.

good luck.

Wish I could get mine to fit. They are msds headers. I'm supposed to here from them Monday. Spacing on the changes is way off.

That would be flanges. I need to learn to proofread.

$600 for the headers (MSDS website) and $200 - $300 for coating (Jet-Hot / Swain Tech etc...).

Perhaps a dumb question but are the headers correct for your engine?

Probably could have saved some money if I have known to buy direct from msds.
Just one more mistake I've made. But I believe in supporting our vendors. The headers were just one part of a large order. Tried to save money on shipping.

Yes they are the correct ones. They were a rush because the first ones They welded up '87 flanges on by mistake.
