Default 951 vs 928 S4

So I may have any opportunity on trading my 951 for an 88 928 S4. What are significant characteristic differences and what to expect. Thanks for any input.

A more substantial car that feels heavier through the steering wheel. A more forgiving handling car but not as responsive. When in a turn on the limit you have to make bigger inputs to change the car's attitude on the 928. No turbo lag and gobs of torque. More room and more exclusivity and less gas mileage.

Why is it you are thinking about making this trade? I ask because they are very, very, very different cars. The 951 is much more of a traditional sports car while the 928 is a GT car, especially when coupled with an automatic.

Rather than try to write up an opinion on the difference, I recommend that you get out and test drive a 928 extensively. Then decide if the comfort, luxury and power of a V-8 GT car is more to your liking and desire. You never know, you might find you want one of each!

I have both. The 928 is totally different. Both are fun. The driving position is better in the 928. The feeling of speed when the turbo in the 951 kicks in is very fun. It's easier for old fat guys to get in and out of the 928 because of the doors. If I had to make a choice I keep the 928. It's a much more substantial car.

You will prolly go from a 5sp to an auto, as most of the S4s were auto trans. The auto in the 928 is a very good but it's different than a 5sp. I've got a 968 and the 928 is the clear winner in comfort, but the 968 is a bit better in low speed handling.

Go drive it for at least 20 minutes if not more. As far as maint goes, the 928 has all the bad attributes of the 951 family and more.

Anytime a "vs" post is made like this, I think the same question should be asked on the 951 forum. That way you get the most complete all around opinion.

And should be preceded by a search that will bring to light the last dozen or so times this exact compare/contrast has been run through the grinder.

This is not a 'vs' post. This is a from-to. I can't see a lot of benefit asking the 951 forum about the differences from the 951 to the 928. Sure, there are guys on the 951 forum with some 928 experiences, but there's a lot more guys here on the 928 forum with 928 experiences which is the target of the OPs interest.

Anytime VS is put into the title I think that is what it will come down to whether the OP meant it or not. In the end what this thread will eventually conclude is that the OP should take two primary factors into consideration. Those being: his/her taste and driving style, and the second and likely the most important, which is the better example of the two cars for its model and year?

I think i want more of a cruiser car now. I always wanted the 928 S4 so this opportunity has just come up. The seller was selling it originally but said hed consider a trade so here we are. I would give him some cash too as my car is worth less than his.

I just made a 90 mile trip today with my DD 944. During the trip I was thinking it would be nicer to have a S4 DD. The only thing I would miss is the fuel economy of the 944.

I drove from CA to NJ in my 944 in 5 days and it was quite comfortable. 24 mpg on the trip. I regret selling that car but I like my 928 better.
