On a Euro S 16 V engine, which stands to allow the most HP?

A. Headers into a single Y with a 3" pipe through a resonator with a RMB

OR

B. Headers, into a first generation OTT Xpipe, into duals with a resonator and RMB.
That's a tough call with the information you have provided. I would need to know the diameter of the exhaust tubing for the dual-exhaust system you propose.

The attached table will help in the most general ways.

It will come down to the pipe size used in the dual exhaust, and the transition between the OTT X-Pipe and the Headers (as the Ott X-Pipe does not fit the headers without modification). The differences between the two exhaust systems you theorize matter less the further away they are from the motor, and matter more closer to the motor.

That's why I would watch that Header-to-Y-pipe or Header-to-X-pipe transition very carefully. There is a general consensus that dual exhaust is always better than single exhaust - but only a dyno before-and-after can tell for sure. Air flow and fluid dynamics are very peculiar birds, as a mere change of 2" in a header collector can move the whole power band around...

We bought something like this to merge the headers with the x pipe. I don't remember the exact dimensions but the step down pipe has a larger diameter on one end than the other. The headers set alot farther from the engine than the traditional exhaust manifold (of course), so to follow your theory it matters less which we decide?

The only concern with the X pipe and the duals is that we don't yet know if the distance from the left side and right side header will line up with the X pipe. If it all lines up then we have no worries because we have the duals and resonator just waiting to hook up. If we have to cut or significantly bend the x pipe to allow it to connect to the headers then we will have to go another route. I hate to ruin a piece of art.

That pic is from our test fitment of the new 32v headers with merged collectors to our SS Header-X pipe.
I do not have a Header-X for the 16v headers.

I stopped by the shop yesterday and the heads are being rebuilt. Our plan is to install the engine on Saturday and custom fabricate the exhaust on
Monday using the headers, x pipe and duals to the back. We need to figure out a way to tone it down a little because all of the parts that we have do not include any muffler or resonators.......

That only leaves a few days to sort out the fuel and vacuum before picking the car up on Friday AM. OH yeh, I just threw that last part in there..... I hope to pick up the car on Friday morning and drive it to Sharks in the Mountains.

I know that I have said that the last two years but I am really counting on that happening this year

That would be great Kevin. You should probably check with Bill about any specific needs. The engine is at the shop and the car is at his house. We need to get the car to Alpharetta. It won't be a problem, we just don't have a specific plan yet.

Thanks for the offer, see you Saturday

Thanks Seth.

These pics were sent to me by Bill.
Any improvements you see this week were made by Bill Graff at Garage 928.

We will be working together on this Saturday and Monday. I am really only a helper on this portion of the project.

True enough, but you are helping this process along.
Send my appreciation to Bill Graff, he is doing an excellent job!

The engine is still in the stand, HOWEVER, everything single piece has been lovingly cleaned, scrubbed and either polished, rebuilt , refreshed or replaced.
