I hope you and Dins are around in 5 years or so when I ask for those axles because that's how far I am away from a 4L60E with a 3.90 rear end and paddle shift.

By the way, in response to a post several pages back, I found a company called Powertrain Control Solutions that makes an electronic shift system that shifts the 4L60(E) through PRND321 without having a manual shifter in the center console. They also make a transmission controller AND paddleshift kit bundle for a good price.

http://www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com/

Here is what I was thinking for TCU and wiring when that time comes:

TCM-2000 with a 4L60E wire harness kit
GSM-5000 push button shifter
PS-2001 Paddle Shifter Kit with Gear Indicator

I'll be here, Dins may be AWOL. You can buy my hybrid here in a couple weeks. I need room to start my next build. Problem is trying to 1-up the Dinsmobile.

Sounds good. I just need the mounts, axles, and adapters. I will take care of the fun electrical work

So you want to graft the C5 auto torque tube to the 928 engine?

Eventually. I figure it would be an interesting setup if the C5 Auto TT is even possible to mount into this car. So far, we know that the C5 Manual TT works. However, I'm not familiar with the structural differences between the manual and auto torque tubes for the Corvette.

Considering that times have changed and the modern automatic transmission has so many benefits thanks to electronics, I bet it may change the entire character of an automatic S4 once a TCU with the ability to tune torque converter lockup is installed.

If you are planning to use a regular GM automatic transmission with an aftermarket paddle shift set up, it will shift and feel no different than if the shifter was between the seats. A DSG is the way to go if you want true paddle shifts, all the other setup are just automatics with control moved from the shifter to the steering wheel. Its a neat concept but it will get old fast and will be mostly driven in D.

If your going to go through all that, why not just go with a Corvette 6L80e ? T

I have seen an auto next to the 6 speed and I know it will fit with a custom transmember just like Dins manufactured and now Carl's rendition. The Auto Torque tube at the bellhousing is no different from the 6 speed and I already made a couple adapters for that. Someone would have to simply mate the Vette auto shaft coupler to the 928 flexplate by either machining a hole in the 928 flexplate to accept the Vette coupler, or a sandwich adapter between the two, either way it's easy and I would machine it.

The 6L80E does not fit in the back of the 928. The body of the transmission is too long compared to the 6-speed C5 Corvette Borg Warner T-56 that Dinsdale has successfully installed, and the 4L60E.

I am choosing an auto C5 box later on also since my wife will be driving the car also. I understand that paddle shift 'feels' just like any other auto that is driven like shifting the T-handle. However, with paddle shift being such a modern concept, and having the ability to shift from the steering wheel, it seems convenient to incorporate this in a C5 auto drop setup.

At the same time, one of the products I highlighted in the previous post regarding Powertrain Control Solutions changes the typical T-handle auto shifter setup to a push-button type shifter, completely eliminating the T-handle in the center console. See image below..

Mongo the Auto Torque tube (for the C5) is shorter than it's 6speed counterpart. I've measured both. I don't see why the 6L80e would be any different. I like the controls there. paddle controls would be sweet on a track but for a DD, I would be in D as IMO said. but
2 each his own.

This is news to me. I was under the impression that there was a difference between the changeover from C5 to C6. If the 6L80 can be installed into the 928, than what torque tube would work for it then? C5 auto with adapters? It's all hypothetical now until someone actually tries it. I am challenged with capital right now for this as I gladly allocated to the bun in the oven.

Even if it's an inch or two shorter/longer than the C5 drivetrain, the engine can move forward or backwards by the same amount. Just got install pics from Dins. If he can stab the V12-6-speed combo in the shark, then any V8 combo is a joke.

Apologize for hijacking this thread, but here are the dimensions of the 6-speed auto, sans the rear housing.
