Are you making a few? Do you want some people in for those? (Bumper solid shocks).

That and a lightened bumper bar should make a difference. With no actual pop up lights for the non-purists on the "look" department, that can almost offset a big A/A and SC in my case.

I saw a post about drilling the bumper with 3" holes. I wasn't sure how much the driving lights weigh either if they were worth deleting. I am hoping these brackets weigh in at 4-5 oz. each when done. I would have to churn out 5 extra sets for me to buy the material for these.

Yes, 3" holes plus a few smaller holes here and there make it quite light. Obviously its light already, but thats just free food right there, so I dove in.

Can you state a ball park price for some sets? I have a steel set but could just use two aluminum ones for the two cars I wanted to do. Maybe three just to have another set.

The bumper mounted lights are are quite relative to modern items. The glass and the fact that in certain years the surrounds are metal.

I wonder if something could be done with the door bars to make them stronger but lighter.

After all the obvious, all you are left with is body work (already light) and the transaxle system.

For your purposes, X, you may want to look at the back of the car, right? With respect to the weight you are taking off the front just with the engine change. The rear will be approaching 52% at least. I was thinking of your rear bumper shocks, the battery, etc. And the heavy hatch and glass.

What are the dims of the rear bumper shocks? I thought they were solid from factory? The 944/951 are the same dims front and rear.

I don't have any in front of me. My suggestion is a) I can go measure what I think is a rear one on the shelf in the garage or b) Wait for Edwards to come in and rattle off the dims by memory.

They are not solid from the factory. They are similar to the front shocks.

Get the dims from the rears if you can ASAP. If they can be made from 1x4, then I'll order a large stick of billet for them.

I called up Dins and he said his early car he measured had the same rear shock dimensions. Measure yours to confirm. I just ordered a 12ft stick, I need a spare set for my next build anyways.

Back to some of my own project goodies. I removed the fog lights and the bumper is actually not that heavy without the metal housed foglights. So I think I will leave the inner 1/4" wall so the brackets will double in strength and only add a couple oz's to final weight. If I punched them thru, then they would snap under a big hit. Guess I'll just have to stay off the icy roads so I don't frag a bumper. I need to measure the old shocks and calc. the weight saved. I'm burning off a few extra from the stock I purchased....

It didn't really seem like it. I was under the car and crap was falling in my eyes. I am fallible. And I clearly can be full of ****.

Let me find out why there is something going on with my PMs. I had an issue with PMs with Tuomo as well last week. I will look through my sent as well.

The garage finally thawed out. I installed the new brackets and bumper then stood on it...it passes the xschop design modulus....

Sweet...ness! About 3.5 lbs per piece. X4 = 14lbs.

Probably more as the shock I weighed in the pic was blown out and no hydraulic fluid in the body. (I drilled it out to measure its full compression/extension)
I'll weigh the removed fog-lights and get a weight and post as well, they are hefty.

Fixed the damn hood issue.... Driver's side set a 1/4" lower when hood closed...
