When my dad was stationed there between 1967 and 1968, we went there often. We did not have much money and there were some areas that you could hike in and watch the races for free. Where the video opens, the spectator area to the right looks like the area I remember, but that was a long time ago.
I would have to agree. After watching those crashes, it makes me think twice.
Correction: We watched the races at Hockenheim.

What amazes me is that the majority are front-wheel drive cars and that, to my count, none use their brakes...until they've lost it...the 928 was the exception. The 50/50 balance definitely shows.

A friend sent this to me- live webcam @ the 'ring.
Says you can see the flatbeds hauling away the carnage from time to time & the air ambulance goes there often. Their time in upper right corner.

One of the biggest issues learning the ring is not for the absolute beginners (although obviously that's not without its risks), but the stage where you're starting to gain track knowledge and a little confidence.. "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" as they say. You're starting to piece it together, you nail one section really well, suddenly you may find you're entering the next section 20+mph faster than you've ever approached it before.. and that's when the trouble starts. Before you know it, you end up carrying too much speed and falling off...and starring in some Youtube TF videos
* Not that I'm Walter Rohrl or anything, but I'm at a couple hundred laps now and at least I know my lines are OK (had my first instructor session round there recently and was v. flattered to be told my track knowledge is good). I only say this so I don't get accused of being another armchair commentator.
To the OP: if you've even a drop of petrol in your blood, you must go, it's an experience you won't forget! Just be careful and be aware of the risks. If you're particularly nervous (and presuming you have some track driving experience) you may find a dedicated trackday event at the ring preferable to the Public days..which for many are becoming less and less attractive.

It's not a case of "run what you bring" rather "wrung what ya brung".
I would think a few of those bikers had a serious case of skid pant rash.
The 911 at the end was well and truly tw*tted.

I did the "Touristenfahren" at the Nütburgring Nordschleife in October. beuatiful weather, beautiful colours of the fall. I did the Ring in approx 15 min in my Skoda Superb Station and enjoyed every minute of it. Nobody says to drive like Walter Rohrl there. Accept that you are an absolute beginner and enjoy the ride. It's gorgeous! See my pictures of the ADAC weekend at:

Take some of their driver training courses. i am sure you can get a good co-pilot and do a "DE" day with your car. You'll know how hard you can push. Again-take a look at the 928 in the video-the brakes worked and the car spun near center-pretty incredible.
