I have searched the forum and have not found a listing yet for 928's that were dismantled. Lots of discussion on VIN's.
I started looking on ebay and found several cars dismantled and their host VIN's are recorded.
Here is what I have and please feel free to add to the list if you have any information. Trying to get a real number of wht is left.
year model VIN vendor
1988 S4 WP0JB0921JS860062 PK Auto Parts
1991 S4 / GT WP0AA2928MS810410 PK Auto Parts
1987 S4 WP0JB0922HS861568 PK Auto Parts
1989 S4 WP0JB0922KS860802 PK Auto Parts
1989 GT WP0JB0924KS861191 PK Auto Parts
1988 S4 WP0JB0921JS860062 PK Auto Parts
1991 S4 WP0AA2926MS810308 PK Auto Parts
Thanks
Harvey

Yours is not there yet. Wait and see how the New Year goes. The ones I found have been stripped and parts are selling on ebay.

My reason for the list is to find out how many of our cars are left. For example,
1991 there was 387 928's built for the US. How many have been destroyed, or dismanteled? I found 2 just looking today. One was a GT the other an S4.

I Dunno, I guess it would be somewhat interesting to find out how many of each year/model still exist and also would clear up missing links in the master list that Chucky Z used to maintain.

Yeah, as a matter of fact, I wonder what's happened to the 406 NA GTSs ... Know of one that was parted out :-(
How many have never been seen, discussed or posted about on Rennlist? Maybe half?

If the question is how many 928s are still on the road, rather than trying to determine the fate of every car you could do a statistical sampling. Randomly pick X cars from a list of VINs, perhaps by model year, and try to determine the fate of each car using Carfax and other resources to estimate the percentage still running.
We all decry the low current value of 928s (at least when it comes time for sale) and the high price of replacement parts. As long as the demand for the cars is lower than the number that are left, the pool of available cars will continue to decrease as they are parted or simply crushed. I assume that at some point in time there will be a shortage of available cars for potential buyers (assuming that those people interested in these cars don't decrease at a faster rate) and then prices will start to increase. At that time the value of the cars will start to exceed the value of their parts. We have seen with other classic cars how basket cases that were hardly worth anything for years suddenly become worth restoring from a financial perspective.
Of the original 65,000 or so cars worldwide, how many need to be destroyed for there to be a shortage for enthusiasts?
