I am hoping that it still will, unfortunately not at this point in time though. Maybe a few months down the track or maybe longer, but I will get there......

Cheers

Well it has been somewhat longer than I anticipated!! Some **** happened and I had to deal with that......
Now back on the look and a local one that I found may fit the bill.
Question on electric seats - being 185cm tall (6 foot 1) head height is an issue, I have heard that the electric seat base is higher than a non electric base, is this true? Needing to get more headroom there somehow?? Car has sunroof also.
Not a problem that I noticed before?

Cheers

Hey Adam. Was just reading your original threads from abut 3 years ago and see you are now in a position to purchase. Like you I also had the strong desire for a 928 ever since seeing one at its release i 1977/78. Finally had an opportunity to "itch the scratch" about 5 years ago and had undertaken a search for around 12 monts or so. Saw and tested many cars and finally cae by one (I should say it found me) from a ocal Landshak member who also had an '89 928 GT. I didn't want a full on project car and the criteria at the time was that it had to be sufficiently reliable with records that I could immediately and confidently jump into it and drive from Melbourne to Canberra and back. At the time I was doing fortnightly weekend trips to Canberra. I also pent some time researching which model to own and finally decided on an S4 but with digital dash. This meant an MY89 or later S4 model. Anyway my car had good records, had much money spent by previous two owner (I am fourth owner) so meet all my criteria. It is guards red and not my referred colour but hey when you find a good car mechanically and body wise I decided that colour would have to take a back seat. Anyway he colour has really grown on me and is quite a striking red paint. The car has been super reliable over the past 5 years and I have undertaken smaller touch ups and detailing during this time. I also undertake as much of the work as I am able to with available tools and time and rely on one of the Melbourne specialists for any major servicing work. Car always puts a smile on my dial whenever I drive it! NB: Whatever car you end up deciding on make sure you have a PPI undertaken. I can advise if you PM me of recommended specialist in Melbourne and Sydney. Anyway feel free to PM me> i have lots of workshop info and links, etcc and am happy to assist you wherever possible.

Cheers

Tony

Oh I forgot to mention that I am 6'3" and find no issue with my 928 with sunroof. I have found with the electric seats that I can find my ideal driving position in this car. So a sunroof car should not present a problem. Also, given the black interior of my car I find that when driving and having the sunroof open makes for a more enjoyable drive.

Cheers

Thanks Tony. I have been a fan of the 928 ever since I saw a Tamiya model of one in a catalogue in the 80s.... it is taking a while but I am getting there... Car in question is an 82 S. Not sure with the head height, I like to sit fairly upright when driving... will check it out some more when I have another look at it.
Cheers

On the flip side, I'm 6'2 and sold my S4 with a sunroof because I found that intermittent bumping my head on the ceiling (mostly on speed bumps local to my house) was too annoying.

For general driving it was liveable, but I did have to get an extended hub steering wheel and have the seat raked back further than I like.

Hi Hilton,
It seems like more to do with preferences on driving position....
I like to sit very upright and from my initial sit in the car (not driven this one yet) it seemed too tight.
So does anyone know if the manual seat base is lower than the power one?

Do you still have a 928 Hilton (manage to find a non sunroof one?)

Cheers
Adam

Actually I have two.. both non-sunroof manual S4's.. an 87 and an 89.

Been thinking of selling my '87 lately to make space, just haven't had time to sort it out for sale (guards red really needs a serious polish to look good).

The 87 has been my daily transport for the last 3 years.. the 89 needs a bunch of work doing to it, so its time to get down to just the 89 and focus

I have managed to glean some info about 928 seats.
The 80 to 84 models with electric seats and sunroof offer the least head room of any 928.... a combination of thicker base and reduced height from the sunroof! The sports seats from said models is a bit better and may be the easiest solution (if you can find them). Also earlier seats are not as deep in the base.
Later seats also offer more headroom!
So basically any seat from an earlier (pre 80 on non S) or later (85 and on) will give more headroom....
Hmmmmm.......

ANF there's a fairly clean looking S model in WA for sale at 12k, it's on gumtree, if needed I can go take a look, it's been on the market for a while, I reckon 10k would seal the deal, I've assisted East coasters in buying S4's in WA before.
