wp0zzz92zes841364 has no smog test history in Calf DMV, so pretty much zero chance of registering it in Calif unless you have some DEEP pockets ($10k to $15k for epa Calif testing and compliance).
Hopefully no funds have changed hands yet.

Oh...
Nooo...
Although I'm far from being a newbie in Porsche motoring, but I am a 928 virgin.
I won this car, I know with the market for 928 this is high price including that they originally paid $3,500.oo at the auction. I'm in San Francisco, my concern is actually registered and smogging it. The seller said he will give me a lien paper that was not filled out post auction, it would than be my responsibility of trying to get this registered which I would assume would require smogging it.
Any ideas on how can I find out if this 928 is registerable in CA?
How can I check if it has all the proper smog equipment on it?
How can I find out if there is any back fees that I would be responsible for?
The car doesn't even have the plates and DMV has no record of this car in their system based on the VIN, so it looks like it has never been registered in USA. I'm going to look and get the car (about 6.5 hour drive) next week. All the help with my questions from the community is appreciated.
Hopefully it is a good car so it can join the stable of its sisters ('89 930 cab, 75 914 converted to roadster, '67 912 SWT and '96 & '01 boxsters.)

I don't think it would be legal, but it might be possible to swap in a US engine including 100% of its smog related systems and try to get it approved by a referee station, then swap back in the Euro motor and only use "flexible" smog check stations in the future. Referee stations can be pretty fussy, so be prepared to make a few attempts and adjustments to get them to pass it.
By far your best action is to back out of the deal or insist the seller comply with Calif law and provide a smog certificate. If they did provide a smog cert, I would immediately have it retested at a dealer.

I love the Delorean-esque brushed aluminum look. The 928 wears it well... I still wonder how they did the bumper covers.
Trying to sell a car bought at auction in the $3Ks for $18K+ in December is admirably ambitious...
None of these listings mention the lien they did a couple of weeks ago.
Given the source, do we even know for a fact that these cars have clear titles?

I decided to put in an offer on the Adidas car for $4800 and EBAY popped up a screen that said " ErrorWarning
Your best offer price is 94% less than the advertised price and is likely to be rejected. Please consider revising your offer. "
I decided to make the offer anyway.
Worst that can happen is that he accepts and I get a cheesy interior for my convertble

This is how I entirely legally bought mine.
