Opinions on cam gears
I bought my '86 EuroS top end in '99.
Today I pulled out the cam gears to check them out for an upgrade to the high torque belt.
I was surprised to see that they are in this condition.
These are not in good shape at all. Right?

The hard part is done - taking them out. I wouldnt go through the trouble of putting them back in because you'll have to do it again. Might as well get new ones although they are NOT cheap. Do you still have your original hood liner? All that grit in the pics is not helping. My hoodliner was in bad shape & the grit that comes from it will make short work of your cam gears.

I wasn't clear. Pulled the gears out of a box they've been in since 1999.
These were on the cam towers I bought in London in 1999 and even though I put on the new towers and euro S cams (as well as heads), I stayed with the square tooth belt.
I never really looked at the gears before.
Pretty shocked that these are in such bad shape.
I think I will stick with the square belt for now.

Myles, thanks for the info. If the OPs cam gears are bad, mine are TOAST!
Too bad 928MS doesn't make cam gears for 16v engines.
Where can you purchase the OEM porsche ones, I thought they were NLA?
