Default Installed Lizard short shifter

Wow, that was an ordeal, I didn't see a way to install it without taking out the console so out came everything. Surprisingly, I managed to reinstall everything without any leftover fasteners. The only casualty is the ashtray bulb that doesn't come on.

Getting the shift **** back on is pretty tough. I still haven't managed to get it all the way on - even with silicone lube.

I was hoping to enjoy the fruits of my labor but unfortunately, I can't get it into 1st or reverse, so no joy in Mudville today. Next step is to get under the car and take a look at the coupler. Too bad the 928 doesn't have an access cover like the 911.

It doesn't feel sloppy, so maybe it just needs an adjustment. Has anyone else who has installed the shifter managed to adjust the coupler rather than replace bushings?

Lastly, the shifter effort is pretty high. I hope I can get used to it.

Sounds like u just need to adjust the coupler. Get the trans in to 5th, have a helper hold it where 5th should be while u loosen the clamp and re tighten it. Worked for me

I recommend the delrin bushings and at that time adjust the rear coupler.

Once adj properly you can access all gears.

Having installed one in my '89 S4, I'd add one phrase to Colin's note: Once adjusted properly you can PRECISELY access all gears!!

I too have the delrin bushings in the rear coupler.

The bushings come as part of the short shift kit if you're interested in the package deal.

Roger's telephone or e-mail are a lot more informative about what he has or can get than the web site!!!

Rogers site doesn't have a great deal of things.

Though a phone call or email is always the best way to find out what he has.

With regard to adjusting the coupling....

I don't have a floor jack or lift bars so lifting the car will require use of the standard jack. I have jackstands. I prefer ramps, but without reverse, it would be hard to back up onto them.

To get at the coupling, will it be easier if I jack up the entire back end, or can it be accessed from one side? If yes, is one side better than the other?

You can do either side, or the rear.
Jack and stands is fine.

I was able to do it from in front of the rear passenger wheel without lifting using a "thin helper" that goes by "Slim".

While you are waiting for your bushings, you can just loosen the two bolts that hold the lizard shifter in the tunnel...this gives you enough movement to get the 1st/reverse gear plane....that should work until you get your rear coupler bushings installed to "tighten" it all up ...
