Yes stock porsche wheels. Take a look in the members For Sale forum usually a good deal for them there. Search wheels here to insure fit on the '85 before you buy though.

Also contact Gary Knox a he is in your general area and may have a wheel or two you can try on before you buy on-line. Though he is an S4 and newer guys also.

Well, I took a $20 gamble... and lost! I replaced my Royal Purple gear lube with 80W90 petroleum based lube. The idea is the synthetic oils may be too thin/slippery for the syncronizers to work effectively... I've tried everything else so what the hell... I took the car out for a test drive, brought it up to operating temp and the shifting is still notchy & crunches into 1st, 2nd, etc, without any improvement... so much for that theory

I kept the Royal Purple in a clean oil jug JUST IN CASE I needed to switch back... Hey, I'm maybe gullible but I'm not a complete idiot... So, if anyone else thinks that a petrol based lube may help - please point them to this thread - it's not a solution for crunchy syncros

The Lizard SS works flawlessly... probably too good cause you can feel EVERYTHING... the problem is in the tranny and I may just have to get used to it... I really dont want to drop the tranny just to investigate the cause. Maybe a winter project

The last link I posted might be of interest.

And BTW, I like the boat. I considered one of those before I bought my Flightcraft.

Yep... I figured it out... thanks for the link. Its a great ski boat, very strong, extremely reliable & very simple design so you can work on them yourself... which I like. Has a super strong following like the 928. They used to be one of the premiere comp ski boats along with Correct Craft, MasterCraft & Supra. You dont see many of these on the lake anymore... kinda old school. I'm in two "motorhead" clubs: 928BuckeyeLandsharks.com and AMSkierBoats.com - check 'em out. Only down side is I kind of run out of time in the summer

Much frustration today - zero progress getting 1st and reverse.

I jacked up the rear of the car and used jack stands and ramps for extra safety. Battled with the diabolical rubber boot that covers the shift coupler. The bushings look quite good and only allow a small amount of play so I wasn't about to take the whole thing apart to install new bushings (it needs to be completely taken apart since the bushings must be pressed in from the inside of the coupler).

I proceeded to loosen the pinch bolt assuming that all I need to do is rotate the shaft a bit to realign everything and allow the shifer to be able to select all gears, but no dice. There's not enough lateral movement from the short shifter to allow this to happen.

Right now I'm stuck and don't know what to do.

Get the trans in to 4th gear, have a helper hold it where 4th should be while u loosen the coupler clamp. Have them push it all the way into 4th just to be sure and re tighten the coupler clamp while they hold it there.

Also, putting in the new bushings is not hard at all and well worth the effort.

You must replace the shifter bushings as the factory though may feel ok still might have too much play.

4th gear is the best to use for adj the linkage.

I tried adjusting the coupler in 4th, in 2nd, no difference. The shift rod doesn't turn far enough to get into 1st/reverse. Is the millimeter or so of rotational play in the coupler capable of making 1st/reverse unreachable? Or should I be able to get an adjustment point where all 6 gears can be selected even with the existing bushings?

Where is your shifter installed in the tunnel... left, center, right? Post a pic of the installation if you can.
