I was talking about venting them to that aluminum stack which is tied to the Provent. What bad things are you talking about?

Porsche designed the 16v cam tower in two ways:
- tilting the cam tower on the head, (you can see the tilt in my avatar)
- internal casting wall
This means that the cams towers are always 1/2 full of engine oil. I believe Porsche designed it like this so the cams are always bathed in engine oil, never to have a dry start. At very high RPMs the cam towers fill up 100% with oil.

Because their is always a large oil "reservoir" at the cam towers, it is normal to see oil weeps at the cam tower gasket. Critical that the gasket be installed correctly and oil viscosity and oil type come into play of how much weep their is.

The cam tower design also feeds the argument if the oil drain back channels are large enough, and the need for "oil deflectors" installed at the end of the block drain back. Be really cool to add a pressure transducer to the cam tower plug and measure the pressure at 6000 RPM. If the pressure is something like 10 psi, maybe an oil restrictor is needed in the oil feed galley of the head.

So if the cam towers are vented to Provent, (or any other arrangement) the Provent will flood and you will so much oil in the exhaust system may never be able to burn the blue smoke away. I tried the 350 Chevy way of venting the cam towers to a catch can, blew so much oil under my car had to pressure wash the underside.

Using a -6 hose and connecting left and right cam towers is a good idea. The best is to use -6 hose and connect both cam towers to a tee fitting attached to the front valley plug. Excessive cam tower oil will drain back into the crankcase.

Duc since your engine is not boosted you should not be seeing excessive blowby. Using 20w-50 oil and WOT ignition timing of 26 deg is all thats necessary. I'm not a fan of the exhaust evacuation idea. Only see that set up in dragsters, only works under WOT.

Interesting. I have my cam covers vented to the stock oil fill can ( drilled and tapped for fittings). The oil can is then vented to the Provent. I have not seen the issues you are describing. If oil is pushed from the cam covers it will drain into the crankcase through the large opening at the bottom of the stock oil fill can. The reason I feel that it is important to vent the cam covers in my set-up ( and Duc's ) is because we are using the Kuhn scrubber below the stock oil fill can location. It is baffled to keep oil from coming up from the crankcase in the case that it gets slung upwards from the crank counterweight. This scrubber causes some amount of "blockage" and I equate it to trying to breathe through a stuffed up nose. I vent the cam covers in order to hopefully decrease some of the crankcase pressure. I currently have the provent vented to atmosphere but I plan on drawing a vacuum on it at some point in the near future.
