Default WWII German smoke screen. (update)

Well ************

Took the car out for a little post tune drive, a little town driving and then a quick down the freeway and back jaunt. no issues.

Then took the wife out on the same trip but after we got off the free way... HOLY HELL was the car smoking. i have seen cars smoke but this...... wow. i thought the car was on fire in the back. so we are sitting at the light just off the free way and i took off to head home. no point in pulling over really. car drove great, acted fine.

she smoked less and less the more i drove it home. a little puff was all it did on the last turn home.

checked the car out as it idled. found a small exhaust leak at the collector. easy fix.

SO. where do i go now? tare the motor out? what do i check for? i mean it would have to be ONE HELL of a piston ring issue right?

Probly something simple.

Color and smell of smoke will be huge.

Throttle dependent as well?

Look for drips.

Well it took the plugs out. 1-4 plugs looked ok, but oil was all over the pistons and pooling in the valve reliefs.
5 and 6 were the worst. coated in oil. 7-8 looked ok.

time for her to come out and go in the trash (block). hope the pistons are ok.

or i should just do the LS mod.

Calm down and relax is step 1

Probably just a stuck ring.

Please give us all the info on the bottom end.
As in where is it from? Did you remove pistons?
Also is there oil in the intake?
It's possible that you had a bunch of oil in the intake that got sucked up and that's what you're seeing.

Well im running a crank case evac (little suction valve in the exhaust) that is filtered by a provent filter set up. so no chance of oil in the intake. (checked anyway)

Short block i got on here from Dan Brindle. bores looked good. i had the pistons notched down in cali (mike at the engine shop?) and i had a new set of rings gapped at the local engine builders in ABQ. new rod bearings as well. i did not do the main bearings.

Pistons are probly fine...

THIS..is what I'll also see after a WOT 1st, 2nd, and into 3rd gear run even before the supercharger. Id do that burst at lunch in the last 1/2 mile to the office, come out at 5pm, and blow a cloud as the oil picked up from the bottom of the intake was spit into the upper intake..then ran down to the intake valves as it sat.

Yup.

What rings were installed? All 3? Brand? Part #?

How many miles since installed as it can take a little for them to fully seal.

That said, how were the pistons and lands cleaned? If the factory coating was removed when this was being done, they won't have lasted long.

Rings i got from my porsche bud in abq, he got them from his supplier (for the life of me i cant remember the brand, but it was in german)

i cleaned the pistons with carb cleaner and rags and that chem dip cleaner. coatings looked fine.

could they leak at hight RPMS (not seating just right yet) then seal up at lower R's? i could drive her around more (in town) and then check again?

i cant see it being valve guides. so it would have to be rings right?

What is spirited.
4k
5k, 5500
6k?

Just not redline...

From what speed to what speed..etc.

This COULD be normal on stock crankcase venting.

Open up..
