I'd love to delete mine but I use it as a DD and the cows around here can't seem to open a door without smashing in the side of the car next to them.

I live in Wyoming, the least populated state in the union; and still, when parking at Wallyworld you just cant get away from the 1984 Chevy pickups which look like they've been out chasing cattle since new and with chipped paint on the door edges where new Caddys, Mercedes and Porsches have encountered the likes of the ol' cowhands from the Rio Grand. What?? You're going to post armed guards around the car? Then delete!! Can't afford armed guards?? Better keep them on.

This is probably my all-time favorite shot of a 928 --- (with aero's and the other twists it would be perfection)

Someone needs to post a pic of a rubstripless GTS...view from the front to the rear , along the side...so you can see the sumptuous curves of the rear flare extending out from the smooth curve of the door..

I like the rub strips on the S4/GT cars as the side panels are more flat. Do not like on the 78-86 MY and GTS's

I think it is mainly a visual preference issue.

^^^^^ That may be a legit reason to keep them.

^^^^^ Nothing you do will protect against that.

^^^^^ It would be interesting to see "level of protection" study results.

I mostly prefer delete but not always.

YMMV

Oh my lord, there is not another car in existence with more beautiful and pure lines than the 928 without rub-strips and some nice alloys...

Many thanks for the opinions and the pictures. I really like the look without the rub strips, but I have to admit that I am a little uneasy about deleting them - it would be upsetting to get a ding in the new paint right where the rub strip would have been. OTOH, I seem to have acquired a couple of dings where the rub strips weren't located anyway.....

Decisions. At least I have a week or so to prevaricate and be anxious.......

Being a low car and with all the SUV's and trucks on the road, they won't save you from anything but a small car or small sedan.

Just never park near anyone.

What we need is temporary rub strips we can throw on when we need to.

If the doors weren't aluminum the temp-strips could be magnetic.
