A little "for sale" humor
#17
Lots of cars for sale are offered with a "just needs xxx". If it was that easy, seller should do xxx and sell the running car with everything, including all the xxx tasks, working and done. Problem is that xxx, that seller assures us will only cost $, actually costs $$$, plus there were $$$$$ in WYAIT tasks and casual damage to take care of.
Cars that have been parked that long and not "stored" were parked for a reason, proibably a $$$ reason when the owner only felt like spending $. That $ memory sticks while the problem is still at least $$$ and oftem blossoms to $$$$$ in the years since. Plus the cosmetic damage is now $$$ on top of that. And we wonder why there are no bids or offers on these cars.
It also confirms that those of us who maintain the cars impeccably will still be comapred with the $ POS cars that "only need $" to make them the same as mine. We are doomed to 928 ownership forever unless we are willing to sell in thatcompetitive $$ market!

Yeah, I bought an eBay 928 as my first one....advertised as "needing a battery". Seller sort of forgot to mention the battery was installed backward, positive to ground, the timing belt was snapped, and the car had been sitting outside, leaking a lot of water for 5 years though a partially closed sun roof....and I was stupid enough to buy it from his description and photos....I have learned a lot since then......mostly sellers always lie, and new 928 buyers tend to be OVERLY OPTIMISTIC to a fault...and yes, I know that not every seller lies, but most tend not to tell the whole story.....or look the other way a lot!

On a slightly more positive note: I bought my 86.5 from a car dealer who listed it on FleaBay... Braman Motors in Miami - a huge dealer that took it in on trade and wanted it gone. They were upfront about the car and had an entire folder of reciepts from the previous owner. The car had been hit at least once (cosmetic only) and the repairs were OK but they didnt know or didnt care - I'll probably never know for sure. I figured that out later when I noticed the different shades of Grand Prix White. Other than that the car was in good working order with an immac. interior and only 41K on the clock. Not knowing ANY BETTER... I got in and drove it from Miami to Ohio making a 700 mile trip in only 1200 miles - yeah, I took the long way home I was very fortunate that the car was in great shape cause I had no idea what I was getting into at the time i.e. TB/WP, etc - I could have been a disaster! Since joining the 928BuckeyeLandSharks and RennList I've gained sooooo much knowledge about the ins / outs of this car (didnt know what a 86.5 was, etc) that it surprises the hell out of me I didnt get taken to the cleaners. Must've been my lucky day! I've since put on 28K miles in 1.5 years and love to drive and WRENCH on this rolling piece of art!!!

[QUOTE=DougM;9869482]Love the description of the EBAY ad...."Owned by my wealthy uncle owner","Just needs a slight tune up", "origanal owner". Is this a play on words meaning he was the original owner and he was very **** about the incredible care he took of the car.

I tried to bid -$5000 on this car so I could get it to being worth $2000 but strangely eBay wouldn't take my bid.

I sent the first eBay guy a message offering $400, my top dollar for that car. I think it would be worth it for the wheels. Clean them up and you might get $450 or $500 for them. Then I could scrap the rest of that poor car and put it out of the misery in which it is wallowing.

The guy responded to my final offer of $400 for the car with this:
the junk yard offerred me 600 for it, since there is a lot of aluminum on it, to get it running would be about 500 max, 400 will not work,.
Would it be worth giving the guy $600 for it?

Doug,
You posted exactly what i was thinking when came across this car the other day.
I was skimming through ebay and the car in front of that big house caught my eye. I clicked on the link and found what seemed to be the F%%Cking Creature from the black lagoon 928!!!
Reading through the description, I almost S##T in my pants I was laughing so hard!!
I don't think I could make a car look this S##TTY unless I had some movie monster makeup artists dress it up for Halloween!!
What did they do to the dash??? Spill acid on it??? WTF!!
