Another good one, where someone tried to register the PorscheV8.com domain.

I get your point and don't know if this is your intention but, I won't be spooked into making a decision about what to do. You can dispense with all the trademark stuff......

Certainly not my intention, I assure you. That's not how I roll.

While it is currently fashionable to automatically bash the OC, there are valid reasons to consider the OC and its website as the natural home of the Registry.

As a Trustee, I see absolutely no reason that the OC would make the Registry a "members-only" feature of the OC website. It makes no sense to lock up what could be a powerful draw for non-members to learn about the club. There are currently plans in discussion for making the OC website more accessible and useful for both members and nonmembers.

The OC is more likely to survive and grow now than ever. If it survived the doldrums and the turbulence of its past, it will live long and prosper. Clubs outlive bickering and rivalries. The OC provides the best chance for the Registry to survive in its present form, or even better, to grow and become an active, vital part of owner participation.

The 928 Owners Club might represent the best opportunity to have Porsche accept the existence of the Registry. While the 928 is a dead brand, so is the 356, and Porsche certainly guards that brand jealously. Having the Registry as a part of a non-commercial, owner-oriented site might be its best chance for tolerance from Porsche. While this betrays my bias, PCA as a whole has shown little interest in supporting the 928, and I doubt that there would be sufficient interest in maintaining the Registry.

The OC has the best chance to attract dedicated volunteers for maintaining the Registry on a continuing basis. There is less incentive to volunteer to help a profit-based organization.
+1 on all points. Very well put, Wally. I don't see any other means by which the Registry could be safer than it would in the hands of the owners who are dedicated to keeping all things 928 alive and relevant.

I am only one member, but I would be pleased to see my money used to buy the Registry if that is what Chuck insists. Chuck is right that it certainly has value.

Guys,

I wish to thank all of you for your thoughtful comments regarding this topic. You guys have given me much to think about when it comes to the future of my site. After careful thought and weighing the options, I have decided to sell the site and transfer the domain name to a new owner. I will consider all serious purchase options, some of you have already sent PMs to take over the site.

Sorry for the delay but, we're moving and renovating a house that is coming down to the wire whether or not it will be ready the end of this month. Also, if that weren't enough we're packing up, selling, giving away, donating or throwing out 10 years worth of crap we've accumulated. And is that weren't enough, I've been absolutely covered up with work (a very good thing!) so I just haven't had the time to address this aspect of my life. I've done lots of windshield time though and have had some down momments to think about what to do with my site.

If there are no serious offers between now and the time we move; after we settle in, I plan to put it on eBay.

What goes with the site:

Of course, all of the online stuff but in addition to that:

All of the paper files/records/documents that I have accumulated over the years. Some of which is on the site and some of which is not.

To contact me regarding the purchase of the site, please send email to: chuck "at" 928registry.org Please do not PM, with my schedule its just to hard to respond in a timely manner since I have to log on to RL to do so.

Best to all,

Chuck,

I am going through much of the same with my parents right now. They are downsizing for retirement, perparing to sell thier home and move to a smaller retirement condo. Reducing 42 years worth of household stuff is a monumental task at best. Good luck with the reduction, and with the website sale efforts.

Just read the 928OC newsletter where it stated Chuck has donated the registry to the club. Thanks Chuck!
