That sucks! Want to drive the Pizza mobile? Just needs a little coaxing to run right.

Understood. What a bummer. Hope you find a solution.

Andrew,

Dont despair yet.

Pull the cam housing of that one bank, then do a leakdown test to check for bent valves. I doubt you have any just yet.

Andrew, if you need some late Euro 16v cams or complete cam towers I would be able to source some for you...

This sux!! I think something jammed the distributor gear and that knocked the cam bolt loose. The rest was domino effect.

Thanks John. I may take you up on that offer.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I was running pretty good (aside from being sharktuned). But I think the problems are definitely connected to the distributor. Maybe when the first one broke or when the second one snapped its belt. Either way, it's kinda ****ed.

Does anyone know if I can salvage the cam by having it welded and a new keyway put in? Or am I better off getting a new cam?

Webcam or Paeco make a blower profile?
;-)
Or 78/79-- would match the displacement then?
Not the combustion chamber though, I guess.

It can be welded and a new keyway cut. Just is a bit specialized and need to make sure it doesn't bend.

Thought I would update things.

The leakdown showed all the valves were okay. So I got some new parts and cleaned up the US cams I had laying around. The Euro cams that I pulled out look like they can be repaired, so I will keep those for another day.

Here's the engine out yet again... (thanks Davek9!)

WHen I went to drain the block... this happened. Crap! But at least I can fix this easily while the engine is out.

Helicoiled...

Torqued!

I thought I had a picture of the engine ready to go back in, but must have forgotten to snap that pic. Hopefully i will be back home at lunchtime today to drop it back in and start hooking things up.

THe goal is to get it running by tomorrow. Tune on Sunday, and get to tech on Monday for a DE on Thursday.

Since my last update, the engine went in (again!), and the car runs great! No leaks! I could not be happier. I decided to use the US cams, with the Euro Heads. So far the car seems very happy. I've got maybe 100 miles on it so far. It makes about 6 lbs of boost which is about where I want it.

I was going to try and make it to a DE a couple weeks back, but it just wasn't in the cards. I'm about 90% tuned. I have a couple last adjustments on the fuel to go through, then I may play around with timing a bit more, but it's pretty much good to go as it stands.

After I had abpout 50 miles on it I put it up int he air to check for leaks and while the engine was dry, I did find split CV boots! Luckily I had a set "in stock" and proceeded to swap those out.

I also noticed something funky going on with the "through bolt" on the rear LCAs. They seem like they have some play in them. I'm wondering if the bushings are toast. I'll need to monitor those, but it's drivable. Here are a few more pics.

I will try and get some good pics of the entire car this week.
