tv...

that is required for the rotors and pads to convert the kinetic energy to thermal?

FRICTION....

what is required in the rotor pad relationship to create that friction?

THE ROTOR MUST REMAIN TURNING WHILE THE PAD REMAINS STATIONARY, AND THERE MYST BE FORCE APPLIED BY THE PAD ON THE ROTOR..

what is required for the rotor to remain turning?

THE TIRE MUST CONTINUE ROTATING.

what is required for the tire to continue rotating when the pad is forced against the rotor?

the friction of the tire/road MUST exceed the friction of the pad/rotor... how can you not get this and leave the most important part of the transfer out of the equation..

the ABS is what keeps the tire spinning... by reducing the friction on the pad to a point that it is lower than the friction between the tire and the road...

the less grip the tires have, the more the abs has to work, reducing the friction of the pad/rotor, and by default INCREASING stopping distance...

When I hear squealing brakes, is that energy being converted to heat in my brain?

The 86.5 is also desirable because it has many flaws fixed and can be had with most of the features that the later cars have, while still being lighter than 87+ and retaining the original body style. Oh and it has the 5L with L or LH-Jet.

and you still dont understand the system of brakes! its all on the tires, the brakes create the force at the limit of the tires adheasion, and that adheasion is at about 4% slip, optimally for most race tires.

in summary, big brakes are for racing or when disipating heat is nessesary to keep the brake pads from fading in their ability to create friction on the rotors. with proper cooling a tiny pad can create the same stopping power as a huge brake system for a given tire or set of conditions.

Do the GTS rotors rub the control arm knuckles when mounted to the 78-79 spindles/hubs?
