Default Fuel gauge reads low when full

Hi all,

Long story short:
  • battery ran down to nil
  • after re-charging and several cranks, starter blew
  • new starter installed, fuel gauge now reads low with yellow warning light and gives "call range" warning, but tank is full (i know because I tried to fill at station twice and pump shuts off as it does normally when you're full up)
  • all other gauges working perfectly now, as was case before incident

All ideas and advice appreciated. I'm inexperienced but willing to try and eager to learn.

TIA,

Roy

the procedure is in the WSM for resetting the fuel level gauge on yours.
It involves draining the tank and putting a set amount in, one liter IIRC, but it is a perfect time to put a screen in it and get rid of the intank pump if you desire to do so.
I think on a 89 it has the intank pump.

Hope this helps. If the PDF does not download, you need exactly 15 liters (3.96 gallons) in the tank. Then pull back on the operating lever as you turn on the ignition. The display should read Tankeichen in the left window, and 15 Liter in the right window. Press the "0" button in the center console until "15" appears in the center window....Done!

What a PITA..

SO I just did this procedure on my '89 to get it off reserve. Only problem is that I have 7 or more gallons in the tank. Guess I'll have to drive it to empty then re-fill it and repeat the process.

Need to go get some driving done.

Michael
