But this is the type of value OC members deserve! It's a win/win The vendor gets more business, the member gets a discount. What's not to like?

You want a change in direction, that is your right. I want to ensure everyone knows that means existing programs, which you don't value, may cease to exist.
Roger has had a vendor offer of a 5% discount listed in the 928 OC forum for 2 years. Because you don't visit there, you don't know. You talk about communication, but much of it has been done, you just choose to hang out at Rennlist, instead of with the 700+ 928 OC forum members, where one would think a 928 OC president would want, and need, a presence.
All new programs are announced in the forum, if you go there, you would see that. I can't make you review the electronic correspondence. It seems you choose not to participate, so you don't know, but you don't accept it is your responsibility.
Andrew I was ready years ago to move on, I would rather be working on my 928 race car.... A number of people reached out to me when you said you were going to run last time to ask me to continue, and that is why I am still here. James stepped up when the club needed someone, at the same time that you decided not to help.
Who will be your membership chair? Has that person spoke with James to understand the process? Or are you so certain to abandon it, that you do not care?
Will members still get annual mementos? I know you question the value, but I see them whenever I see members, so they do like them, and often ask for new alternatives.
Who will administrate the 928 OC forum? Will you simply leave it behind, abandoning the Roadside Assistance Forum, the Technical Library, the member profiles? Keep in mind there are those who do not want to pay Rennlist for what is included in their membership, and perhaps most importantly the contents of the 928 OC site is the property of the members, not true with Rennlist.
Will you keep all the regional representatives and help them put together events, and will the 928 OC still fund them?
The membership has grown by hundreds in just the last few years, this is due to the programs in place that you question the value of. How are you able to assure members that you will continue to see the same growth?
Why did you let your membership lapse for 6 months during the past two years if you were dedicated to the club?
Just some thoughts for you to explain to the members

Hi Stan-
I certainly hope you're not mis-characterizing my statement as a bash against you. It's not. I think you've done an excellent job of carrying out your vision. I have been and continue to be an OC member despite my loss in the last election. There are no sour grapes on my side. I had some major life changes after the last election, but things have settled down significantly.
I have always been willing to help out the OC. I have continued promoting the benefits of the OC - but that frankly has become harder and harder. I've helped organize and I've attended several OC sponsored events. I still need to make it to Sharks in the Park and Sharktoberfest on the left coast. If elected, I will make one or both. Promise.
You did ask me to help out with the OC after the last election which I lost by only a few votes. But frankly, it was clear that our visions are vastly different and I did not feel I could be effective while you were at the helm. My vision has not changed much as you point out - it is a repeat of my last platform. The main reason for this is because most members still do not feel they receive any value for their membership.
Thankfully, Roger, who has endorsed me, "gets it." Did you know that 928sRUs gives OC members a 5% discount? That means a $600 purchase pays for your annual dues. I would like to get other 928 dedicated suppliers (928 Int'l, 928 Motorsports, and 928 Specialists, and possibly others) on board with the same program. Now THAT WOULD CREATE VALUE! Everything else, like event t-shirts, trinkets, etc. become icing on the cake!
It would have been nice if the owner's club would have let the membership know about any new benefits that were developed, don't you think?
You ask if I'm a RL member running for OC President or a OC member running for president. Frankly, I'm both. I spend more time here, because that's where most people are. Of the 700+ on the OC forum, I am one of them and as you point out, I've onlt posted there once or twice in the past couple years. Why do you think that's so? I would be willing to bet most people on the OC forum are similar to me.
In case you haven't taken the time, you should know that Stan is not running for president this time (I think he posted that earlier) I'm not sure why, but I thank him for his service and I know he will continue to be a valuable resource for the club.
I had strong reservations about carving out enough time for this role, but I have discussed it with my family and friends and they have agreed to help me carry out the duties and activities. Together we can all make this club a really great organization again.
I have some other GREAT ideas that will strengthen the club and make it easier for the many volunteers behind the scenes to focus on those activities that will add value. It will require us to re-vamp a lot of things - and of course change is always a little uncomfortable, but I promise, if elected, I will help make things better for everyone!
Thank you to everyone who has expressed their support for me both publicly and privately. I know I can't please all the people all the time, but I will do my best to have your membership add value to you and your 928 - which after all is the mission of the Owner's Club.
And Randy, if elected, I will hunt you down and get that membership dues from you personally!![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)

Roger has been offering the discount for about two years now, it's nothing new. The others that offer (and that are posted on the OC website right at the top BTW), are Leatherique, and Electronik Repair. Rich Andrade offers free testing of LH fuel Modules, and EZF/EZK spark modules, all you have to do is pay shipping. Not sure what the Leatherique discount is.

-I don't know how many actual members 928 OC had at any single time, but 928 owners do sell their cars and not return.
I do know that there were very few membership renewals occurring and not very many new members in 2006 when I became Treasurer (might have been 2005, but I'm away from home and don't have access to the real records). I also know the treasury had $5,000 in it at the time of transition from the original officers to new officers (Ed Ruiz moved to Europe, I became treasurer, and Stan Shaw became president at about the same time). During the first year and a half as treasurer, the lack of new members/renewals resulted in the treasury dropping to about $3000.
After I notified Stan of my concern, he instituted a new and improved system for notifying members of their expiring memberships, and the renewals became more frequent. He also recommended and the Board supported an increase in regional meets. More of us got acquainted with each other personally and became friends even though separated by significant distances as a result. And, I think many of us became more active in recruiting new members at these meets, or when we met 928 owners in our communities. And - James Morrison has been EXTREMELY active and effective at getting the "stuff" to new and renewing members since he became Membership Chairman.
The end result of all this is that I believe there are over 500 (maybe 600 to 700 - again away from home) members of 928 Owners Club at the present time. I DO KNOW that our treasury is bigger over the past 1-2 years than it had ever been previously. With all bills paid, we consistently have accounts at $13,000 to $15,500.
This note is only to clarify some history that I am aware of. Others who have been officers or active members longer than I may have further history to report. This not is also not a "campaign" activity for either of the two candidates for President. I know them both fairly well, and hope whoever is elected will work actively to continue the advancement of 928 Owners Club that I have seen over the past 6 or so years.
And, if 928 OC members believe I have handled the club's funds well, I would appreciate your support for another year as treasurer of this great group of people. Thank you in advance for your support if you choose to give it.

Excerpt from post on OC site, 2010:
"928sRus is one of the largest suppliers of 928 new parts in the World. We would like to offer all current 928OC members a 5% discount on our part prices. This discount will not apply to "Specials" already in place or offered from time to time.
The discount does not apply to shipping, service or trade accounts.
As we have such a large customer base we cannot remember who is a member or not. It is IMPORTANT that you advise us of your request for the OC discount prior to completion of your order. Once an order has been processed we cannot retrospectively apply the 928 OC discount..."

Stan - are you running for the position?
If not, why isn't the person you are endorsing participating in this discussion?
Seems strange that you are in here duking it out with AO while the actual other candidate(s) are silent.
That says quite a lot.

I know I am about to get flamed for this but here goes. I made my first OCIC this year and had a great time meeting some new people and hanging with some old friends. I got to hang with Mark and Terry(always a hoot), I met Andygts , Malcolm from Canada , Jerry Feather, and of course the regulars I consider friends Kurt, Hans , Andrew , Jim Mayzurk (its a long list) Hell Roger even bought my wife and I a round of drinks at the bar (most of you know Roger and I don't always see eye to eye on everything I would say it's a "strained relationship" at best .however he was a gracious host thanks for the drinks and the hospitality).
The point I am trying to make is one of the guys I thought I would meet at the 928 Owners Club International Convention was President Stan Shaw but he was a NO SHOW. For me that is like President Obama not showing up for the State of the Union or on a lighter note Roger Goodell not showing up for the NFL draft.

I'm even a charter member or was, still need to renew as I keep forgetting till stuff like this comes up.
For the few dollars a year it adds to my 928 experience as a whole. I'm still one of only a few in this area with 928's and both rennlist and the OC have been very good to me. I don't have any get togethers near me so I try to get us all together at the track for my local PCA event. Nice having a "brother in arms" there at the track who can get together on fixes if needed or someone you can trust to borrow from and get back.
In the end we are all brothers in this experience, though some are nicer than others, I enjoy both for different reasons.

After 43 responces to this thread, we still haven't heard anything from James. I'm disappointed. James is always promoting his calendars. How is it that he isn't promoting his candidacy, and vision for this club?

Andrew, how about changing the title to make it a little more inclusive? That way we can keep all of the OC smack talk.... er ehem, I mean electioneering in one place.
