Default Head Parts

http://www.flickr.com/photos/51967142@N00/7701683206/
#36 - N 011 918 1 (Lid)
#37 - 911 101 182 00 (Stopper)

I'll need to place those plugs at the end of each oil channel soon. The parts guide (PET) lists two parts for this seal (#36 & #37), but I remember that #36 was visible when I dropped my heads at the shop. To seal up the channels properly, will I just need to use #36 + Loctite 574, or is #37 somehow part of this seal as well?

Thanks,
Dave

So, I did a little more research on this, and I've posted links to the threads I found on this topic...maybe it helps someone in the future.

Despite the research, its still not clear what plug(s) I need to use on my '87 heads. I've only been supplied the aluminum discs (part #37), but these don't match what I saw on my heads, unless #37 is somehow tucked behind #36. Since I didn't disassemble, I can't be sure though.

First link below seems to suggest that #37 does not fit, while the second link (post #5) shows #37 as part of a general head refresh. The third link (post #9) mentions two parts for the seal.

Any thoughts, suggestions or pics here would be awesome....

Dave my records show that the N 011 918 1 are correct - but then again I have been wrong before 8>)

Thanks Roger, PET appears to list both parts...seems to be an odd area in the documentation. Here's a link to one more thread I found...post #3 advises #36 over #37.....

Looks like we've got it all sorted now...#36 or [N 011 918 1] is what I'll need to use (at least on my heads). I'm still curious what #37 is used for, and why its listed on the 928 PET page...FWIW, it also shows up on the 993 and 996 PET pages.

Stan, thanks for posting what you've used on the heads in the past. much appreciated.

Porsche will happily sell you #37's, but after R&Ring the galley plug 'lids's on two sets of heads I've yet to see one of those plugs fall out of an oil galley.

Actually, I had Greg carefully re-weld each drilled plug, ground them smooth, chucked 'em up in a lathe to trim the OD ('cause they distort a bit when you weld on 'em). THEN I got them re-plated. 3 hours of labor @$120 per, and $95 for plating.

Dan, they need to come out because the oil galleys have XX-XXX,000 miles of crap in them, which then gets flushed into your new motor when you fire it for the first time.

Brendan's experience: (and mine, have pulled these on two sets of heads.)

after a head is rebuilt there is a chance that the glass beads will get into the oil galleys thus the need for flushing the galley and running a bore cleaner down it, this galley feeds the cams
