Default Oil Galley Plugs

I am going to pull these once I figure out how and flush them out to make sure all is clean after having heads surfaced.

Now , how do I go about removing them? Looked in WSM. nothing I see in there about removal or installation.

Also , just tap them back in with a socket like a freeze plug?

Yes, they just tap back in, use new ones and there is some special sealer that my machine shop uses if you want me to find out what it is I can for you.

Greg. I could use the name of that sealant thanks. I'd buy 8 more plugs off you if you have them. My supplier is out as well and I am 8 short.

I will call Scott tomorrow and get the information, I bet you can get the plugs from any of our great vendors, or get me a size and I will get them for you if I can.

It took me a while to figure out the part number for these. Do you have some pictures so everyone knows what you are talking about?

Jeff:

I'm still trying to figure out why you didn't have the heads completely "freshened"....with the miles on that engine....

I drill them in the center and use a small slide hammer to remove them.

I use Locktite 574 on them.

I generally keep them in stock, if you can't find them. I can check tomorrow, if you need me to.

Came down to dollars. I am going to do another engine in the future so I didn't want to spend another couple thousand doing the heads completely. The car had plenty of power, compression check you did was good. It was good enough for me at this point.

OK, to each's own.

But this is like getting a clean set of clothes, starting the shower, getting naked, and then only reaching in to wash your hands....

Yes, I do stock several sets of them, since we replace them whenever we work on a set of heads.

Yell if you can't find them.

I got the plugs installed. Have to redo one head because I put one in too far and the galley is exposed. Prolly gonna pull all 6, clean again and reinstall.

these plugs are one time use,
once they are installed and then removed,
then they have to be replaced
