Yea, but who would actually WANT a 996??? Unless it were a late model Twin Turbo with the full leather interior the inside is going to look like crap and it will be slower than a GTS and by comparison poorly built!

I have put hundreds of miles on a 996TT and would not trade ANY of my GTS's for one! It was indeed faster than the GTS, but not by much and it is so common you see them every day and the interior quality is just junk! The late TT's (and 996's in general and those with full leather) are not bad, but still not GTS level interiors.

Bilal - the 996 and newer 911's are water cooled, not air cooled btw...

If it's on the way, it would be great to get your opinion on this GTS. Contact Parker at: 407-301-2544. TIA. 77Tony

Not by much? What was wrong with the one you drove? They are ALOT faster than a GTS. My stock '85 928 was faster than a GTS (13.3 sec in the 1/4).

The regular 996 is NOT ALOT faster than a GTS...it is a touch faster but does not FEEL any faster (I have driven many of them!)

Let me rephrase... The 996TT didn't FEEL that much faster! Yes, it is QUITE a fast car (the 996 TT) and again, from a build quality standpoint... NO COMPARISON! The GTS has it ALL OVER the 996. The ride (on the road) was not as good in the TT vs the GTS either, but that will be different for everyone. Some will like the taughtness of the TT (though I found it a bit to stiff for the road), but I prefer the suppleness of the GTS on the road, even the sport suspension is softer than the TT I drove.

Re read your post.....you were comparing a TT to the GTS and said it wasn't much faster. Now backpadling to compare it to the NA? Just say you were wrong and move on. The 928 is a very confortable and fast car but it is a GT and designed to be that. The *** draggers were never built to be this so the ride is firmer. Both cars are built for two different purposes. Fit and finish on the 996 is poorer but that's one reason they are so cheap nowdays. To be able to get into a fair condition 911 for $15K or less is amazing. I've only driven a Boxter S before but let me tell you. I was impressed. It had low end torque like an S4, handled like it was on rails and the braking was amazing. I trully ealked away with a changed oppinion on these cars. To me fit anf finish of the interrior doesn't matter.....I drive it for their performance.

Fit and finish on the 928 is one of my favorite aspects of the car. Performance doesn't matter much to me....I have other cars for that. I've had a 996 (not a TT) and it was a nice car, but the fit and finish really didn't compare to the GTS's. The interior showed a lot of abnormal wear and tear when I got rid of it at 23K miles.

I think the sports car in the Porsche line up is the Cayman, NOT the 911! The 911 IS the GT car today. I'd say ever since '98 when the first 996's hit the market that has been the case... YMMV

Would love to own a well maintained GTS; saw some great ones at the OCIC.

996TT's are great cars too. Mostly, it depends on how you use them.

Imo000,
That is just a marketing ploy. They have added a radiator for looks only to fool the casual observer, but inside they are still using an air cooled engine.
