Default LSD problem....what happened???

Yesterday on the track my "no shift O' matic" racer was running well (other than not being able to shift gears).....I noticed a HARD bottoming issue at over 100mph in turn 8 (fastest corner on track) so we raised the suspension by 10mm.....car was handling GREAT......felt awesome I was chasing some miati and all of sudden my LSD let go.....I couldn't turn hardly at all, it was like an open diff....anything more than 1/3 throttle while turning was a joke.... endless Bill Ball impressions....

SO here is my question to the forum....WHAT HAPPENED....you can watch my previous video literally 1 hour before where the car worked well (I posted a thread)...and watch this....night and day difference.....so what was the cause?

I KNOW.....my mechanic called me today (he lives near the track)....

What say yee

Did you brake an axle/CV/spline on one side and your LSD is the only thing keeping it from freewheeling?

^^ +1 .... one side's freewheeling.

That is exactly the behaviour I got in a race car I had which regularly snapped axles. It became a real handful, with massive throttle steer, and wanted to swap ends at every turn.

Seem to recall the early slip the spider gear shaft was machined to a half circle and that shaft can break.... long time ago so check carefully.

Yep ... both shafts are notched to fit together to form the cross.

Interesting.......while the LSD is VERY weak, the axles are fine....

What broke was the front sway bar.....its a DEVEK bar and it snapped on the passenger side right where the threaded part goes into the bar itself...

I plan on installing a weltmeister bar I have.....then I can take time to fix the Devek bar

Wow. That's a lot of funk over losing the front sway bar, more than should be expected I would imagine but I never had one fail.

Didn't you have some chassis/spring setup discussion recently?

I think I have 800lb front springs....but maybe they are lighter than that? Might be time to invest in some heavier ones!!!! At least springs are cheap....

This LSD was weak from when I got this car.....I have slowly been taken steps to improve the function of the LSD.....lower ride height, reduce rear bar, disconnect rear bar, add friction modifier to the rear end oil...all of which made things progressively better....then it was like I literally hit a switch and was worse off than I ever have been.....

Its getting there.....just a matter of time to sort out the car to make it the way I like.....of course I like shifting gears.....I think this trans might have an internal problem with 4th....at any type of real load its nearly impossible to get 4th....only can get it with very low rpm under light load....

Jezuz! Take the diff cover off and hope the debris didn't mess up the ring and pinion.

it probably did.....I'm sure it didn't make this trans any easier to shift either....but other than 4th gear not allowing upshifts at all....it works pretty good

not really, thats what happens when you loose a front sway bar. ive lost mine a few times and the car is basically undrivable when it brakes, more at thunderhill than laguna. the front roll is so great, you basically lift the rear wheel up. no normal diff can handle it. you WILL have runn away wheel spin. without a cage, not as bad

im running 3/4 stiff now on a devek bar. seems to help but would like to have 50 to 100lb stiffer springs. (775 x 450). full stiff would pull the brackets apart that hold the lower bushing bolt. reinforced, it holds , no problem, even full stiff.
