Default Smoke from AC head

I've had smoke pour out of my AC head unit. (1984) I've posted a full description of what I have found so far on Dwayne's HVAC compressor relay repair procedure thread. Please check it out and reply if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

Exclamation

Bump...

Anybody?

I'm going in... Going to pull the components and do some measurements. I'll check the diode and surrounding components, I'm assuming much will be burnt.

Check to see if the compressor coil is drawing too much current

Thanks for the input.

The compressor clutch (coil?) actuated when I applied current. I did use a rather large gauge jumper lead and it didn't get warm. How much current should it draw normally?

Not that much. I supply a 3 amp fuse with my rebuilt control heads.

However, your short is not on the circuit to the compressor.
