But I agree you should do a leakdown or compression test. With the two cars locally who had similar belt failures, we did that before starting the cars.

not to be a naysayer, but just because it starts and idles doesn't mean there isn't valve damage. you need to do a leak down and compression test like several here have mentioned. If it passes then you have indeed dodged a bullet... but I'm going to bet at least 2-4 bent valves.....
