Hi Cheburator , I have figured out what you saw , the 17" dia Cup 1 wheels on the 968 you mentioned are the very rare 8 J X 17" X 52mm winter use only wheels ( rare option ) and only for use with winter tyres , well thats what Porsche wanted & they are even wrong for a 968 with summer / normal tyres .

The Porsche supplied 968 ( summer / normal ) 17" dia Cup 1 wheels ( option only in 1992 & 1993) are as stated above , 7.5 J X 17" X 65 mm offset ( fronts ) which are the same as a 928GTS & the rear wheels in Cup 1 are the same dimensions as a 928GTS ( hence why we buy them ).

In 16" dia the standard ( Non M030 ) front wheels on a 968 are 7 J X 16" X 55 mm offset ( same dimensions as a non M030 944S2

In 1994 , the 968 clubsport ( with M030 ) = different front spindles & 928S4 front brakes had Cup 2 wheels , and again in the 7.5" X 17" X 65mm off set ( same as a 928GTS ) ditto for the rears ( same as GTS ) .

This car is now in my garage after a five year chase. My understanding is that the XX8 option refers to the Widebody. Time will tell as I move forward with more research.

Unfortunately the pop up headlights were only options on specific turbo S cars. It was not something anyone could add to any 911. These were part of the 935 tribute on the 930 known as M505 and a handful of 94 turbo S's. There were three versions X83 (Japan), X84 (ROW) and X85 (USA), the Turbo S Flatnose, was available in the USA as a $60,179 USD option on top of the base price $99,000 USD Turbo 3.6. The “Flatnose” option was available when ordering the no charge ’36S’ option ‘1994 Turbo “S” Model’. In addition to the Flatnose fenders, it also included the ‘X88’ option or ‘Turbo S’ motor, the ‘X92’ Exclusive front spoiler, ‘X93’ Exclusive rear spoiler and ‘X99’ Exclusive rear fender vents. The flatnose option was designed around the model 968 front end for the ROW and USA versions. This could not be ordered on a standard 964 turbo or 964 of the time. Same goes with the M505. You could order the turbo S without the slope nose or flachbau option on the 964 it was known as the package car but had all of the options of the X85. More info at flachbau.com

I have factory info someplace that claims the 1" wide flairs of the GTS were new to this model.

Well, if that's what you wanted, congrats!!

I have seen one other in person in Europe. That one was certainly factory equipped with GTS fenders. So, it is possible that yours was as well. The CoC suggests that and it seems to be proof enough to me at least.

Do a search on Japanese 8928 GTS and you'll find many pictures. In addition to the front fenders, they also had a modifed rear fender that looked it had a mud guard.
