Enjoying my Porsche 928GTS and making sure all the right care is provided
This is my first post about a passion that stated last year.
I always loved cars as a kid and am very informed about their details and performances. But I never knew I would become an addict to classic cars. Perhaps it comes with age. I started to research the cars I used to love as a kid and made my top 10 list. One of these classic cars I wanted was the transformational Porsche 928 GTS. My elder brother’s friend had one in mint green and I loved it!
I began my search throughout the used car sites in Dubai and in the Middle East region and found the car I was looking for. It was a 1993 Porsche 928GTS in metallic silver with dark blue leather interior. I explored two other Porsche 928GTS in Dubai and one in Kuwait. They both were amazing, the pink one was beautiful but had too much mileage and the red one seemed more like a project car. Since I was already working on my Koenig Special Mercedes 560SEC, I did not have the bandwidth to take on another project car. The headache would grow out of control.
I ended up in a classic car dealer in Dubai and I just could not get over the way the shark looked. It was stunning, even though it was parked next to a Testarossa. The dealer is a good friend of mine and within hours I bought the car. His showroom is worth the trip. The Porsche 928GTS is still at his garage as I am planning to build an indoor garage, in this region the weather is the enemy. Or I could use the other excuse; my wife will shoot me if I bring another classic car home.
I know am at a stage where I need to do a major servicing and tuning for the car. It has travelled 104K KM. I visited several 928 specialist websites in the States and am in the process of ordering the key things I believe the car needs from 928 Specialist (they have been a great source of information):
Timing Belt & Water Pump Kit 87-95:
- (1) 928.105.157.50 – Porsche
- (1) 928.106.015.20.L - New Laso
- (1) 928.105.552.08 – Porsche
- (1) 999.512.564.02 – Porsche
- (1) 928.105.611.05
- (1) 999.701.650.40 – Porsche
- (1) 928.105.613.04.OEx2 - OEM (recommended)
- (1) 928.105.571.04.OE – OEM
- (1) 928.105.512.12.OE – OEM
- (1) 928SP.WP.BOLT.SET.8795 - Bolt/Washer Set
Tune-Up Kit 85-95 (32v):
- (1) 928.110.185.03.OE - Mahle
- (1) 928.107.201.05.OE - Mann
- (1) 900.123.118.30
- (1) 928.113.445.00.OE – Mahle
- (1) 928.110.253.06
- (1) WR7DS - Bosch Silver
- (1) 928.602.211.01x2 – Bosch
- (1) 928.602.213.00x2 – Bosch
- (1) 928.602.060.99 - 87-95
- (1) 960.307.901.01 – OEM
- (1) 928.572.479.00 - Porsche - GTS Pollen Filter
Brake Pads - HAWK 92-95 - Street – Front
Brake Pads - HAWK 92-95 - Street – Rear
I hope this covers most of the needs for the 928GTS for now. I am sure I will try to update the interior and perhaps update the rims. I am tempted to update the rims to the legendary Porsche 911 3.6 rims, I am sure they will look amazing. But I need to focus on the mechanical work first.
I have learnt a lot from Rennlist and look forward on any additional feedback from you all. I am sure I will get more from the experts on this car.
Thanks for reading and hopefully I’ll post more updates soon. Attached are some pictures of my car and parts I am in the process of getting

Welcome. Looks like a great car. The front fenders look like the car was originally delivered for the Japanese market.
You are in great hands with Jeanie & Dave of 928 Specialists. They are great to work with and know these cars inside out.
Best of luck.

Nice 928, the color is simply stunning.
I own myself a 93GTS and previously an 82 that parted to a friends garage. They are just great cruising automobiles.
Think of replacing your DME relay just for safety. as well I'm sure 928 specialist can guide you through any need you might have, I've depended on the for years.
If the car has sat for some time you should also remove the fuel tank and have a good cleaning.
Good luck and enjoy it!

Is this a Japan Spec car - looks like it from the wheel arch treatments (will have M193 as an option code)
This car appears to have USA type front Fog/Drv lenses (fog lights in the inboard position) and H4 headlights - I think this is somewhat common on Japan spec cars (they follow some USA safety specs) - but there are no LHD H5s headlamps)
Keep track of your oil consumption while driving it - a known (but variable) issue with these cars.

There are a lot of Japanese import car in Dubai- no problem finding out where it came from but this is probably irrelevant by now. If the car is still in dubai you might get our firendly Aussie there to take a look at it for you.
The real question is whether you have anyone up in Bahrain capable of looking after it for you. you really need someone who knows these cars to look after them. I have seen some real basket cases here when worked on by experts who knew nothing about 928's. Even the main dealers only have one or two chaps who know the 928 now and when I need a job doing I cannot handle myself due to limited faiclities or the summer heat there is only 1 mechanic I allow to work on my car.
Good luck
Fred

They can tell you more about it from one cell phone pic of the car than I could after crawling all over it for an hour.
If you post the VIN (either here or in the "VIN Check" thread) then they can tell you where it was delivered and what options it originally had.
I haven't seen anyone suggest checking/replacing the fuel lines. That is something to seriously consider. If one lets go, you will end up with a "Carbecue" in a heartbeat. Too many cars have been lost this way.
I will also second the suggestion to find a real 928 mechanic. These cars have enough unique and unusual things that even a factory trained Porsche mechanic won't know what he's doing if he hasn't been specifically trained on the 928.
Welcome to the best place for info and knowledge about these wonderful cars!
You have a gorgeous one.
