i think you will have bonding issues with the base color if you do that. i have always had good luck with VHT paints

I used hi temp clear over hi temp aluminum (both 500 F) on my intakes. The clear turned patina (kinda yellow) after a few months. Wouldnt recommend it...

Actually, this is a really interesting subject for me right now. I am in the middle of an intake refresh and I would like to paint the lettering on the intake manifold.

This is at least a moderately high-temperature environment. I was thinking on using POR-15 engine enamel. Actually not sure if the color will really match Guards Red...

Here is an interesting website with some high temperature paints including brake caliper paint:

Cheers, JP

I now only use the epoxy paint (I think from G5, or something like that). IF you prepare the base well - cleaning, sanding, etc. then brush on the epoxy, it lasts very well and does not change color. I've now had nearly 2 seasons of Drivers Ed programs on my '89 S4 front and rear calipers, and they are exposed to MUCH higher temps than the street/highway car. I painted them red, and the color is still just as bright and glossy after that amount of usage. LOTS of brake dust, of course, and they clean up beautifully.
