While doing the Oil pan/MM.

Looks to be broken right off.

I was about to do my motor mounts and oil pan gasket and noticed a crack where the motor mount bolts in. I think I'm screwed.

I don't know if you can tell by the pic, but where the mount attaches to the crankcase the crack runs along the part that sticks out.

A little more highlight on the picture... The blue line is a crack that runs along where the motor mount bolts into.

It's not the best thing that you could find....

Long term....what it will hurt, I'm not sure. However....

That boss is part of the lower cradle....which is Aluminum and not the Silicon/Aluminum blend that the upper crankcase half is made from....so the good news is that it could be welded....someday.

The other good news is that the large 10mm bolt that goes through the mount threads into the upper crankcase half....so once that bolt is tight, that "broken" off piece is essentially "captive" and really can't go anywhere. Plus, as long as the "rear boss" is still attached, the motor mount will be stabilized by that boss, also.

I'd think you could bolt it all back together and it will probably be fine, for quite some time.

If it broke off the lower "cradle" flush with the outer portion of the casting, it really shouldn't leak oil. If it broke off and the broken part "communicates" with the inside of the engine, that could be a "challenge". Is that oil, that I see in the picture, from you or is that coming from under the crack?

Is the "entire" boss broken off, or is it just a crack on that one side?

If all the above is correct, would it be wise to clean the area and put some sort of JB weld or aluma weld product in the crack or between the pieces before it is bolted all back up?

Just a thought.

The entire boss is broken and it moves. I stopped when I saw that it moved, thinking it was a done deal.. I'm not sure yet if it enters the engine.

If it does enter the i engine... then I'm back to "I'm screwed" again.. correct?

Here's the pics

My camera is lousy sorry about the blur. It appears as thought it might not enter the engine.

In an area that is bound to "move", a sealant'epoxy that hardens is just going to crack and leak. Probably would want to use a more "flexible" sealant that gets "along well" with oil.

I don't see that being a problem. Bolt it back in there, acting as the "spacer" that it really is, bolt on the mount, torque the long 10mm bolt to 32 ft lbs, and take a look at it, next time you change the oil.

What a great ending to a potentially crappy day.
