Well today whilst adjusting the rear ride height (looks like I am gonna have to remove the front shocks as the collar and sleeve are seized and turn together
), I noticed the rear left inner CV boost had split with some grease leaked out. Can someone point me to a thread on how to replace. I did check Dwayne's Garage and he had a good write up procedure. If this is ok to use then I will go with that procedure.
Roger, I need t CV boot kit along with all those other goodies I am ordering. Probably should do both whilst I have the axle out.
Cheers

Tony,
Just a suggestion that I learned from other 928 owners a long time ago, and that many have followed:
Get 4 kits from Roger and do both axles at the same time. Then, put the current left axle on the right side and vice versa.
This puts the ***** and carriers into essentially a "new" thrust position, rather than the way they've probably been stressed for the last 50K+ miles. Doesn't take a whole lot longer or cost that much more, and it gives you years and miles of no "worries mate" driving.

Just got 4 kits from Roger last week and should do this job soon.
I'll use Dwayne's procedure. Thank you Dwayne.
Also, thank you Gary for your advice to change the axels from one side to the other.

For the passanger side on an '89, you can get away without removing the rim or any suspension part. Pop the centre caps off and remove the axle nut, then remove the bolts holding the inner CV to the transmission. After that, the axle will slide out. Never done it on the driver side but maybe it's possible to do the same there too.

I used Dwayne's guide when I did mine last fall--worked great. My only problem was how to put on the clamps that came with the kit. I didn't know they required a special tool (doh!) But a pair of dull side cutters work great. And, it's been 6 months and they haven't popped off yet.
Not a problem on a 89, but FWIW, flushing the PSD slave would be soooooo much easier with the axles out of the way. I think installing new transmission mounts would be easier too as the upper bolts are "right there" in front of you.

By the way - Be Sure you loosen the nut on the axle WITH the wheel on the car, and with the car NOT jacked up. Car should probably be in gear, and the parking brake on, as the ~350 ft lb torque can be a bit tough to get loose!!!
Cheers mate, enjoy the prawn on the barby - it's a lot better than removing the grease and replacing it with new on the CV joints!!! - ha.
