The GTS4 IS NOW MINE
Contrary to all of the "good" advise posted here about this car, I went ahead and bought it. It is the notorious "Potsiewebber GTS." It was characterized as a frankinstein-like car and that it is likely to drive down the road sideways. Contrary to that, however, I loaded it into the trailer straight and it seemed to have suffered no ill effects from being hauled home facing straight ahead.
Here are a few pictures of the car as I picked it up and loaded it. It is still in the trailer and I may get it unloaded this evening.
I have already seen many of the issues that have been reported about this car and I have also seen where much of the information about it posted here is basically misinformation. For example I am pretty sure that it was never hit in the rear and totaled because of that, even though my Seller advertised it as having been hit in the rear. He said that the original owner, his seller, told him that it had been hit in the rear and that all the fenders were replaced because of it. It looks like the only fenders it has are on the front.
If you want to know almost as much about this car as I do I suggest you look it up on the 928 Registry. It is an early 93 GTS and the last four are 5123.
I am calling it a GTS4 because as you know or will see, the front damage was repaired by grafting a front clip from an 88 S4 onto it. I will know more about the quality of that project when I have had it a little longer and can get under it or even take some of the front end apart. In the meantime, I see that the gaps are not very bad and I am pretty sure that it is staight enough to track correctly.
What I have in mind for it right now is to use as a fitting form for the GTS version of the Wheel Well liners I am trying to finish up with. I still hope to have them ready for production by OCIC. I might even bring this car to the convention if is running well enough.
It was quite a trip. I put 2650 miles on my pickup and trailer out to Illinois and back in just under three days. I left in caravan with Hans Saturday morning about 6:00 and got home yesterday, Monday evening, about 7:30.

I think it's all about knowing what it is/what you have... I'm guessing the PO didn't have a real clue until he dug into it...
Congrats on getting the GTS/S4..... BTW...it's not the only GTS with a grafted S4 front end...I know of one other too

The "dude" in the first picture is my Seller. He is a very nice young fellow and is currently in the military, although I don't know even what branch, and he is currently home for R&R from the War in Afganistan. When He and I met I think he had been home only for two or three days and together with his travel time I suspect that he had just enough time to grow the facial hair you see in the picture. He is probably even scarier in his military combat garb. I think he has one or two other 928s one of which is a 91 GT which he bought in Denver, I think, and which he is having gone over by one of our guys in Texas.

Yes, I guess you missed it in the first line of the opening post in this thread. Happens to me all the time.
I have talked to James (Potsiewebber) a couple of times about what he had done to the car to get it to this point and I think most of what was done was likely done pretty well. What it looks like to me is that even though the basic structural work might have been well done, they came up short on the finishing details. I think if I take it back to the point where they started letting the details go and work from there this GTS can be brought up to a pretty nice quality car. It's damage history will always be there, but I am not going to worry any about what I might be able to get out of it someday. I'll leave that to my daughter who will probably be driving it to college and beyond after I am done with it.

Glad to see a rare car go to a great person. Hope it works out well for you Jerry. She looks good from here. Once I relocate out west I would love to drop by and help some.

Kudos to your seller for his service, and his love for 928's. Hope he makes it through his service in one piece. Congratulations on your new acquisition, JF!

James (potsiewebber) bought this car from the guy who bought it from the salvage yard, and then he did the repairs and development. After he put a lot of money and effort into it I think it got the best of him and he put it up for sale. The guy in the first picture bought it from James and had it only a year or less before he was deployed and decided to sell it. I think he found the Black/Black GT that was more to his liking, so this Red GTS was up for sale. I bought it from him, not from James/Potsie.
