Only 800K more to go to hit the 1M mile club.

Had a great time at SITM, thanks a Dave and Jeannie.

Alot of new faces, some of the old gang too.

Weather was chilly but perfect if your AC isnt working.

Just got home after the roughly 1,000 mile roundtrip voyage (driving while at SITM included, plus a few, er, detours). The drive home was much easier than the ride down. I was the lucky winner of a priceless speeding ticket in the middle-of-nowhere in VA; priceless as in the fine amount is not yet set. Looking forward to dealing with that.

Last year was my first SITM, and by comparison, this one seemed a lot more relaxed. Smaller, and less rambunctious, crowd than last year, but we still had some fun.

The BRP contingent was stymied by both fog and rain Friday morning, resulting in us ditching the BRP after only about 50 miles (if not less?). Made for a cool photo, but craptacular driving conditions. We even had to stop and help remove a huge tree from the road at one point. The rain was on and off most of the way down. Unfortunately I got separated from the group once we hit 81(they got stuck behind some trucks and I, well, was going too fast; see above).

Friday night was the fun party I recalled from SITM last year; always great seeing old faces and meeting plenty of new ones. Much bourbon and beer was consumed while Hans and Brent "duked it out" over Steve's unexpectedly-for-sale GTS. I think they resolved it eventually... with Brent's wife taking the prize! Nicely done. The weather was on and off crap Friday evening, but the skies eventually cleared around 7 or so. The BRP crew regrouped and dined at Zuzda, which is a very nice tapas-style restaurant near the Best Western. Highly recommended for next year's trip.

Saturday was your typical SITM Saturday; a huge phalanx of sharks descended on the unsuspecting town, rolling into the slightly muddy Banner Elk exhibition field with gnashing teeth and occasionally spitting grassy dirt fire. The skies appeared pregnant with rain, but eventually they relented and gave way to a partly-mostly cloudy day with highs of about 65. When the sun dipped behind the clouds it felt like it was 45! Glad I brough both a jacket and sweater. Lunch came from Sorrento's, which was also excellent. ALl in all, I'd guess we had roughly 55 sharks present; much fewer than last year's (near 100), but the participant cars were outstanding (and made mine look like crap!). Quality not quantity fo sho.

I missed the afternoon drive, so I will let other's comment on the, uh, group seperation and the brick incident. I enjoyed a glorious NC mountain afternoon at the BW, relaxing with a bourbon and a book before dinner.

When the drivers returned from the field/drive, Alex's gorgeous '78 developed a fuel leak that he and KVLA set to work on; four hours and some JB Weld later, it was all buttoned up again. Gotta love the SITM family coming to each other's rescue.

Saturday evening's banquet was a subdued affair with just about everyone at SITM in attendance. I missed last year's but heard the food this year was much better. Afterwards we retreated to the parking lot to observe the ongoing repair saga mentioned above, and to shoot more $hit. I bowed out early and ended up awaking equally early. I checked out and booked for next year. Tom and his wife Shelly happened to be up and rolling right when I was, so we caravaned together all the way to Winchester, VA, where I split off to B'more while they continued north. I am totally exhausted but in a good way, and inspired more than ever to get down to business on the Kraken. A great, refreshing, inspiring weekend with the Shark Bretheren.

Below are some of my favorites from the weekend. Beware the rabbit. He has fierce teeth and massive claws! And enjoy the abstract 928. I call it "Blur."

Thanks for posting the pic Mike. I was away at a wedding in Savannah this weekend and definitely missed catching up with everyone again this year. Hoping to hook up with a contingent of other NC based 928 owners for next year's event!

Thanks to who ever reminded me to remove my Valentine One radar detector when I got into Virginia. Just like shotting fish in a barrel. I think my rights were violated.
