Default Lime Rock race report-not so good

Well I attended the Lime Rock race this past Friday/Saturday. Disappointed no one else was in GT2 even thought two others were listed.
Day one is practice and fun race.
During practice I came down the front straight and shifted from 4 to 5th. Let the clutch up and the tach goes past 7K and rev limiter is kicking in. WTF?
I coast to the run off and I have no connection from the motor to the transmission.
Thinking I blew the clutch or sheered the little short shaft like I did a few years back. Tow back and onto the trailer. I evaluate the failure to a broken TT. I am two hours from home, but I know I have a spare one. So away we go so I can make it back the next day for the race.

Change out the TT and get to bed around 11:30 that night for a 5:00am back on the road.

Get to the track and buy my new set of Hoosiers ($$). Go out to warm up and scrub in the tires. Turn a mid 58.
Get ready to qualify. On the track in the back of the pack since I missed the third session yesterday which sets the positions. Now my AIM is not picking up lap times. I'm basically blind to how I' doing. I come in after getting a few clean laps thinking I hit my 57. NOPE! 58.1

So race starts with a very aggressive field. The leader is in a cup car turning a low 53! I'm following a cup car and trying to get around him. Multiple laps and I just can't take him out. Get close at the end of the straight, but need to brake earlier than him. I also have this 911 behind me ******* me the entire time. Halfway through the race there is a double yellow for 5 laps. We go green and with a few l laps to go my tires are really over hating and now a rookie is in front of the cup car. He gets around, but I had to wait a few more turns. That is the end of taking the position from him! The 911 behind me is really pushing hard. I go into the down hill with him three times side by side. I'm on the outside in a bad place. We gt onto the straight side by side, but the stroker 928 pulls away and slides in front before big bend.
We do this twice and now the third time we do it again and as we hit start finish we see one lap to go. I pull ahead, but this time he decides to dive the corner!! I'm thinking this is not good at all! He is in so hot and hits the curbing which bounce him right into my side! I get pushed off the track, race over for me

Here is the result:

So no second race for me. At least he was deemed at fault with a 13/13. I get a broken wheel, busted fender and lose a brand new Hoosier. Haven t even looked to see if there is any other suspension or frame issues. The wheel took a big hit.
One note. Louie Ott's fiberglass fenders sure are strong

Leave it to the Professor to ensure that all Ott Engineering components are 911-proof

Nope. Everyone is responsible for their own no matter what happens.

Let me know if you need any help with the Forgline.
Thanks. I need an outer piece. The center and rear are good. Was going to call them today to see how to get one or send to them.

Is the car? as well as yourself ok? sure hope so.
Thanks for asking. I'm fine. Car is TBD. I haven't really looked to deeply yet

that was just like my incident at sears a few years back in the red car. both wheels were ruinied , so i thought, but only the outers will need to be placed. your wheels are fine, just buy new outers for them and build them back up. the fender stuff....... Ugggg! live with it, or fix it.

nice job with the 57-58s and having some fun out there. bummer it had to end like that.

John,

That's good to hear about the wheel. Really sucks that it was caused by what sounds like a guy driving beyond his skills. You frustrated him both on power and skill so he decided to try to make a move on a late turn that cost both of you. What a bunch of crap.

Well, I guess there are boneheads everywhere. Glad you're OK and the car is apparently repairable.

Let me know if there's anything you need help with on the repairs. I can follow instructions well and turn wrenches OK.

I'd love to see you race again too. Keep the list posted on your upcoming plans!

Hi John,
Sorry to see the results of a bonehead on the track. You being not hurt is the important thing. Good to see the fender is fixable. The engine running well makes me grin too.

Louie
