Good luck
I would love to have brand names to facilitate a search here on the other side of the planet.

It has always *irked* me that I have previously had to use the incorrect coloured wire, just because I don't know what the right stuff is called or where to buy it.

I believe that Dan was referring to Eagleday. Expensive, but they've got the right stuff in manageable quantities.

EDIT: Not sure what the brand name of the wire they sell is, if you were looking for the wire manufacturer. There are many places that sell TXL automotive wire, but you usually have to buy way more than you'd ever use for 1 car.....

Tow it home man, if you have a parking space or garage get it there and PM me or some of the guys in the area. You have some good people in the area. Fortunately, unless you cause some real physical damage electrical problems are more time and effort than $$ parts. Unfortunately, if your shop has to spend the 5-10 hours troubleshooting, tracing and replacing wiring it will ad up fast $$.

I also think Carl at 928 Motorsports sell engine wiring harnesses, may or may not be for your car.
Good luck,
Dave

I think this is an unlikely cause - mainly because at the alternator end its hard to do any damage - if you short it to ground - its not normally powered - but if the ignition is on the (non) charging light will come on - if you connect it to 12V the light will go out - this is all normal behaviour - pretty hard to damage this one. (easier to damage the alaternator this way..)

Either they screwed with something else, or damaged other wires in the loom (likely brittle). Starter comes to mind, various sensors possibly - you really need to evaluate what is burned up, look for collateral damage and determine what they did so you have an idea if other damage could have been done elsewhere.

There is no snip the wire and hope for the best - that is just silly thinking - FIND OUT - BE SURE.

Since they probably don't have a clue what they are doing - don't just trust them to do it all.

Ask them to determine all of what is damaged - with identification (CE pins the wires feed - relay # and terminal) then bring that data back here and get a diagnosis. If you don't they may make everything much much worse...

You have to understand that without a set of factory manuals - they can have no clue what they are doing - and even with them they will probably be almost equally lost.

Its like asking them to debug the space shuttle ....?

Hopefully, he bought a AAA membership and had the car towed home! Then, he can tow it to a shop that really knows 928's... if his local RListers don't pin down the problems first!
