Dang Trent! How'd you get so far ahead of me!!!

Mine has been sitting in front of my old house for 2 months now. I have renters in there, and just did not feel right wrenching in front of their door...lol...

Good news, my building is supposed to be up and complete this week, which means 'ol #30 might make it to her new home this weekend!!! woohoo....now I just have to decide if I am brave enough to tow her the 4 miles with my truck, or if I can bum a rollback off my garage buddy! (sometimes the return favors don't equate the original.. : (

Once she's home, I can start playing with her again, and watch the contractors build my house!

Oh, BTW....my blower motor was locked up, and it let the smoke out of the relay on my CE really damn quick....check your blower motor (if you have not already). I have not replaced mine yet...

Nice thread....
Just wanted to chime in re: the exhaust noise you mentioned earlier. Looks to me like you are missing the 2nd (or last) muffler.

I have a 78 and the PO put in an after market rear muffler....I would love to put in the original one and make it quiet, although the exhaust does have a nice growl now it's too loud for my taste.

I haven't posted on this yet, but I got the blower working again. turns out though I have 'magic blower syndrome' when I have the blower set to zero. I don't know if that may have caused the melting, but it is at least another problem I need to attend to. Perhaps the blower needs to be lubricated as well?

As for the oil in the wheel well - I was spraying some corrosionx around in there in places that were a little corroded, mainly bolts and such. Never know when you may need to remove 'em!

Yeah, none of the exhaust from the cat back is original - someone's hack-job that works for now. I plan on replacing it with the stock exhaust in the future. I'm surprised really, that one muffler does a pretty good job of keeping things quiet!

Default parts!

I know you guys don't like AutoAtlanta, but I've been using them for years with my 924s, and they do a very good job at getting the parts I need fast. They aren't always the cheapest, but if I can't find it somewhere else, they tend to have it (helps that they're located in Atlanta, where Porsche of America is located, right?)
Anyways, for the first time ever, I found a cheaper part on their webpage than anywhere else: Ate rear brake rotors. Mine were junk and for the price ($58 each) well worth it. I opened the box and saw this:

They gave me one wrong disc! Well, it's the right size, but it's a Sebro coated disc. It's about double the price, but they charged me for two of the cheaper Ate's. So... I think I'm just gonna let this one slide

Went and pulled all rotors. Rear parking brake bits are rusty, with the right side functional but left side inoperable. I'll blame that on the crusty parking brake line going to it.

Then proceeded to pull the hubs in front to repack them. Left side seemed fine but this is the right side:

Not good! It appears that water got in through the not-seated-all-the-way grease cover, as only the one bearing was corroded. Replaced with a new Timken race and bearing.

I don't think these bearings have been repacked since new! Looks like they've been leaking for a long time

Bam! Cleaned and repacked/resealed hubs!

I also went through the trouble of replacing the cruise control servo and cable, as the servo literally fell apart in a cloud of white aluminum oxide. Here's the current state of the back side of the engine bay:

Just keep finding things to clean and replace as I go. Fun-fun!

Started assembly of front brakes. Here's the good:

Cleaned, sandblasted, and painted front calipers and rotors to match the newly sandblasted, rebuilt, and painted calipers and rotors in the back (soon to go in). I also bought the stainless steel brake hose kit from Roger as the original hoses were cracked and needed to be replaced. Very nice!

Now the bad:

As an experiment, I soaked the right side bolts with CorrosionX, and the left side in regular penetrant. They sat for about a week and the right broke free, but the left didn't. Soaked it some more. After my father and I put heat to the bolt, it came free, but just continued to turn without coming out. It's stripped obviously. Sooo, I need a new brake line from the left front to the ABS pump. Looked it up, $210 Gonna go to a parts store and see if I can find a possible replacement that'll work, but considering the fittings are 11mm, I don't think I'm gonna have much luck.... I don't think the corrosionx would have done any better though, as my guess is it might have been overtightened at the factory. You never know!

My father went by the local 'exotic' car shop today and stopped by to see if he could find a replacement for the stripped brake line. Luckily he did, and I spent the better part of the afternoon bending and trying to get this in there. Fixed! Now onto the rear brakes!

Yesterday: Replaced the spark plugs. They. Were. OLD. They still said 'W Germany' on them! Later I degreased the engine. Yuck!
Today: pulled the rear calipers, sandblasted, rebuilt, and repainted. Also installed the new brake hoses in the back as well. Was amazed at how easily the old rear hoses came of compared to the front!
Also, with the help from a friend who does bodywork and AC work, I got my AC working again!!! The system had pressure, but it was just air, so I took my father's venturi pump and sucked everything out of there, switched the r134 adapter to the low side inlet (they had it on the high side?), and put a canister of r134 in. Boom! Nice cool air! I still need another can to put in, but I'm just so happy that it works at all!

Nice work on the brake lines. Did you use regular cunifer (copper/nickel) brake line with double-flares?

Unfortunately I couldn't find a cunifer brake line in the area - So I used steel with double flares. I figured it'll outlive the life of the car (if properly maintained of course).

Engine after cleaning and assembly. Looking pretty good!

A couple things though that I observed: I can't leave the blower on high (#4) for much more than five minutes, otherwise the fuse blows. Guessing the blower bearings need lubrication or perhaps the blower just needs to be replaced.
Also, I had a little bit of squealing that would come and go from the front of the motor that I heard while charging the AC some more today (nice and cold, but still needs about another half a pound). Used what my father calls a 'poor man's stethoscope' - a long screwdriver - and found the sound to be coming from the fan carrier. So, looks like the bearings in the carrier may need to be replaced. Not sure how much work those are to replace, but I'm not too worried about it at the moment.

Trent, if you don't slow down, you will get done, and then get very bored. That means you will have to come help me....and we "don't" want that......
