Packaging was indeed very well done!!
I have installed the cowl cover - fits great on my GTS.
Today at the AZ Cars & Coffee gathering 7 928 owners got to see it FTF (installed) and in comparison to the stock cover I took off.
All were impressed +3 votes for the rear wheel liners to be next also !!
Alan
BTW some great cars - one Veyron, over 25 Ferraris of all types, Lambo Countach/Diablo/Gallardo/Murcielago/Aventador, Rolls, Bentley, lots of 911s, Cobra,
several Astons incl Vanquish-S & fantastic condition DB5, lots of E Types, Morgan +8, 7 Panteras, a great 'Ghostbuster Mobile' and at least 8 928s. My son was dissapointed that the McClarens didn't show this week.
Great time - nice folks!

Three Wheelin'
Jerry, Got the cowl cover & seal installed - very nice finish and looks great! The downside is I'll have to readjust my hood cause the new seal is sooooooo much better (not flattened) and actually pushes up on the hood a bit...
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Installed about 2 weeks ago - just a great product. The old cover just BUGGED me beyind belief but I was just about to buy another one b/c the one in my car was so broken. Jerry's version is so much better - Keep going Jerry!! For the install on my '86 S, I did need to park the wipers in the "up" position but otherwise - as far as I am concerned Dr. Ing. HCF Porsche AG has much to learn from from Dr. Ing. HCF Jerry Feather!

Jerry,
Mine arrive in Oz the other day, for which thanks! Nice boxing to prevent transit damage, works well. First trial fit shows I will need to do some relief to fit over the RHD wiper motor crank. I am trying to see or get hold of an S4 RHD cover so I can use it as a cutting pattern there, so I dont mess it up. When I am done I will post some pics for you.
thanks again

Thanks everyone for the great reports about the Cowl Covers. I got back from Spring Fling where I had an opportunity to show these off in person and sold a few to some of the guys that were there.
I also got a great chance to try fitting the GTS Wheel Well Liners in Tony's GTS, but found that I still have a ways to go to get them right for those cars. I'll be working on that some this weekend and hope to get the outer form modified again to cure the fit problems.
I still want to get the WW Liners going before I modify the forms for the Cowl Covers for the RHD cars.
Thanks again everyone.

Installed in my RHD 83 with some modification - I have sent Jerry a pic of the hole to clear the wiper crank. basically , the 83 RHD has a higher set wiper motor and crank, and its more to the right side than an 84 RHD. I have had to cut a hole ~85mm dia in the cover, and now it fits exactly right. The hole has its centre 80mm in from the righmost edge (Excluding the curl at the bottom!!), and on that line, 90mm from the rear edge, measured with a square. The lateral centre is almost in line with the END of the firewall clip part of the cover - within +/- 1 mm to my eye. Just need to neaten the edges of the hole so it looks a bit more round. First non 928 person i showed was pretty impressed, especially when he saw the original part.
thanks jerry !

Thanks John, for your report on installing the LHD Cowl Cover in a RHD car. As I mentioned in the Email I sent last night about this picture which you sent me It appears that the back of the Cowl Cover is not resting up in its intended position and is depressed about a half inch. If you look at the strip of white in this picture just above the middle and in the right half of the picture that is the front edge of the metal cowl strip that is just below the windshield. With the Cowl Cover installed that front surface should not be visible. Therefore, if the back edge of the Cowl Cover were held up by the tabs that some of the cars have I think there would be no rubbing on the inderside of the Cover by the WSW crank in any of the cars.
I guess what this exercise is telling me is that I need to develop some kind of tabs that can be retrofitted in the cars without them. I have formerly given that some thought and have a pretty good idea of lthe design, but I will need to do some cutting and fitting to work them out.
I still need to figure out just which of the cars do not actually have the tabs. One problem I have is that in many cases I think the tabs may be there but since they are often not visible with the metal cowl trim in place they go unused. So far I am fairly convinced that they are not in the 78 to 82 cars, the ones with the original 2/3 cover, but now I have to wonder about the 83 as with your car, John.

Jerry,
Seeing as my car originally had a short cover, I suspect it never had clips at the back, if the 78-82 with short covers didnt have them. I see what you refer to in some of the pics above - the front edge of the painted panel is hidden by the rear edge of the cover. I have the cover off right now, so I will go looking for clips, or see if my local wrench has any. Are there any pics anywhere of what the clips look like, where they are fitted, and how the rear of the cover is attached to them ?
The interesting part to me is that the wiper motor changed location from 83 to 84 model.

Cowl Tabs
Here are some picturtes of the cowl tabs that are in one of my S4s. I think about two of them widely spaced would be sufficient for the new Cowl Covers since the back ledge or edge of these are much stiffer than the originals. I would think something like these coud be fabricated out of either steel or aluminum and simply riveted to the front edge of the body panel that the pictures show the originals are spot welded to.

Well, I have felt for the clips, supports for the rear of the cover, and there arent any on mine. In fact, the under panel shown in Jerry's pics above is a VERY close fit under the outer panel on mine - its hard to actually find the edge of it by feel. At this point, with a car only a few years into a repaint, I am not going to remove the outer panel to get to the inner one -as far as I can see this will require removing the black windscreen side trims to get to the end screws out, and these dont tend to survive R&R well in my experience. With the seal in place the cover sits very well, and when I lifted the RH end of the cover up through the wiper crank hole, it stayed there, and all the front of the painted panel is now covered, so I am a very happy camper all round!
Thanks for another great product Jerry!
Whats next - rear wheel arch liners that will fit ? Looking forward to it! Working on how to ship them already...
