Very interesting stuff that I never new.
What ever happened to Bob?
HP is HP I think the trick is how it is applied and how it is blended with the torque.
We no that to much and you spread the diff and twist things off.
Carl has a claim of over 900 hp for the salt flat run but that car is also drilled full of holes to make it light and I think he welded gussets in the diff housing.
We have a guy who has mounted a vett trans.
So with all the experience today I do not see a problem of getting a 200mph car.

I wish I would have been involved with some of the earlier builds but I'm just a 3yr old.

A thread like this deserves at least a casual mention of 'contact patch', energy recovery through judicious use of Venturis, both things that remind us that YMMV.

We made it back to San Francisco at 4:30 am Saturday morning. I was a bit fuzzy for the days activities and I'm sure Marc was too, but had a great time.

I have much respect and appreciation for what Marc did. And those DEVEK catalogs with all those cool parts for 928's were leading edge at the time.
True story. I was at that dinner. I got to finish my dinner while Marc was driving to the middle of nowhere to rescue Rick. He did the same thing, although a far shorter distance, when my LH failed suddenly.

Now that is awesome! My former 90GT (which I had from 1998-2000) was previously owned by Mike Helman of Houston, TX. It was featured in "Photo Gallery Volume 2" on the 928s4vr website. I thought the page was long dead and gone, but here it is:

http://web.archive.org/web/200307180...com/helman.htm

Thanks for bringing back some good memories.

BTW- back to the original subject. If you like that Devek white car video, check out the other videos from 928gtsfan (me ) including Louis Ott's Devek based stroker on the dyno at the 2009 928 OCIC - 595rwhp!

For the OB sticklers, whats the difference between a 78/79 and a Euro 4.5 78/82? Not much.

I think the OB stuff is fun, but only in the silly is fun sense. Nobody would call and order a part for an OB without clarification.

You know I've had your site bookmarked for a long time. Thanks for keeping the page active, it's nice to re-visit it from time to time. That was a great car!

My OB is a 78 - number 535. Given the contributions Jay made to 928 owners It seems only fair that he gets some credit. He sure helped me a lot.

It was Devore or Ekman that died in a Cobra driven by some idiot - years ago.

I'm sure someone here has more details.

Bud Hart still lives out your way, his son Jason lives close to Roger and has a race 928 in the works. Great people.

Don't feel bad, being new to 928's I couldn't figure out who the big 3 were and didn't want to ask.

I'm glad you asked the question; I also haven't gone through all the visitor and new member threads; primarily cause I'm lazy and when I'm not begging people for advice and parts I'm working overtime to pay for it all.

I really enjoyed this thread, both the humor but also the links. These cars were being built when I was a teenager and were on "the list" ever since I saw them. My strongest attraction to a particular car is still its appearance, the fact that these cars are also great underneath is just frosting (on an upside down / inside out cake...car...something?)

Humpty will be back on the road soon, thanks to Carl, Roger, Ken, Paul and Hans (oh yes, there will be missiles...oh yes), Shane, 928Specialists and the often frustrated shop who also supports my other expensive habit. He'll be well on the way to the great car that was already pretty darn good when it came to me.

Something tells me they didn't mind too much driving the wayback machine again...probably needed to be checked for something, make sure there wasn't any weird vibrations or glue in the flux capacitor...or at least...the wrong glue.
