Correct...looks like he is going to tow to... Scottsdale maybe... Going to put it at the dealership since we don't have any other ideas or options at this point in time!

Trying to get hold of Rich Andrade and other 928 OC (and/or RL) members in the area who might be able to help out...

Contact Dan & Yolanda @ Exotic Motorwerks and see if they can help - the last place you want is the dealership...

Exotic 602.840.3420

I'm out of town at the moment...

Alan,

Rich Andrade beat you to that suggestion! The car is already on Dan's rack getting a full check up! If needed Darin and son will sleep in AZ at a hotel tonight and I suspect Dan will have the car back on the road by mid day tomorrow and if it is something easy they will be rolling tonight! Fingers crossed!

Thanks much Alan!

You would think that if you were spending $15k on work at the dealership over a 2 year period you could at least get a H2O pump and T-belt thrown in there wouldn't you??? GUESS NOT!

Seized water pump! Thankfully it didn't take out the belt! So, they are going to get everything really checked out and cleaned up and get all the parts in tomorrow and then Darin will be back on his way towards TX! Heck of an adventure they are having, but I hope this is the last of the crazy stuff!!! A seized water pump can really go bad in a big way and take out an entire engine! SO GLAD it didn't this time!

Wow that's a lucky escape. By being smart enough to spot the problem and not drive, your buddy just saved you a lot of $$$!

That sucks.

Hopefully, the impellor didn't go back and hit the block....or if it did, it's plastic!

James, sorry I missed this earlier, but just got back from church and lunch with our daughter and son-in-law. Although, I would have given the same recommendation for Dan, so you're in the best hands you could be a this point.

VERY scary with a seized water pump, WOW! Dan will get it all fixed up for you, I'm sure he'll check to make sure there's no impeller marks on the block. Let us know if there's anything else we can do to help out.

Dan did all the diagnosis already on a Sunday less than 4 hours after the original call for help? Wow!

That is correct Bill! Dan and Yolanda are AWESOME!!! The front of the engine is dismantled and steam cleaned and has been fully assessed and we are going to do an oil pump and all those seals while we are in there, crank seal, two of the cam gears are new two will be replaced and we will have a new H2O pump, T-belt and rebuilt tensioner all done tomorrow. Love to have a Porken one (not sure if they work for GTS's though) but we don't have time to get one in. Darin needs to get back on the road ASAP and will have already missed 24 hours basically and while he could do it by himself easily enough he has his 8 year old with him...

This is a serious job and a pretty big job but all the stuff you would expect with a T-belt/H2O pump change and this stuff will be done and done right and I won't have to worry about it again for a very, very long time! Thankfully nothing was damaged when the pump seized!

The network we have here and within the 928 Owners Club is nothing short of AMAZING my friends! This is THE BEST TIME EVER to own a 928! I mean to think this kind of work can get done this quickly and get a 928OC member back on the road after something like this is just staggering! We have the best, brightest, sharpest most connected 928 owners IN THE WORLD right here on RL and as 928 Owners Club members (if you are NOT a member please go to 928OC.org and join us!)

I consider you guys more than just friends and I appreciate all of you more than words can say! You guys make 928 ownership a JOY!

James,

Glad to have helped ... I intercepted the tow vehicle when it was just 8 miles away from Dan's shop and made sure it was re-routed in the right direction ... just-in-time communications. I asked Yolanda to locate a hotel for Darin before he arrived.

Your GTS will arrive in TX in better shape than it left CA!!

As a fellow 928 OC Charter member, I invite you all to join us!

My wife's alternator went out on her '88 MBZ in that exact spot. She was moving to TX, I was staying in Cali... we were headed for the big split. This was a Saturday afternoon, and there was not a single alternator to be found in AZ. So I grabbed one locally, got on a plane to Phoenix with a few tools. I almost didn't go, but it was August and she had 2 dogs with her...

4 hours later it was fixed, like yours. That event changed my life. Looks like it worked out for you, too, James!

Just got in this thread..dang.

Wow.

If anyone ever had a problem where I could take a part off my own car, Id fly it as far as 400mi from San Francisco to do so weather permitting.

If this forum had an Angel Flight chapter..I'd like to volunteer as it's first pilot. (Tips in a card labeled 'Happy Birthday' accepted)

(short of cam gears, I have a full proper TB/WB kit in a box ready for my own use this summer I'll put in the kitty for loan use of)

Ive been the recipient of help on the road like this..its priceless.
