I am INSANE....another 928 racer is mine!!!

The kiln red racer, was what we ran at laguna. I remember we had no gear box, only one gear 4th. I even think that gear box was a early 2.75 as well. still was able to click off a 1:45.xx at laguna with only one gear. that was a 4.7 with the euro stuff on it., but the ride height was all jacked up at the time and skinnny 245 tires at the time too. that was a long time ago! thats the weekend that joe and mark andeson both broke. fan broke timing belt, and mark broke a transmission.

When I had the widow, with 302whp and the 2.64 gear box....I could hit 6000rpm in 4th at the end of the main straight....doing the math with 335/30-18's that was 131mph......
If the bucket at 215whp with horrible gearing can hit 120mph..115 with ease on the GPS....I don't doubt the widow was hitting 130mph.....a bone stock Z06 can hit 140+... I have hit 115mph in Spec Miatas with under 120whp...
another ??? is how does MK determine his speeds....since the speedo isn't accurate on the taller tires we run.....I get mine from the GPS lap timer.....and soon will have GPS driven data logging....
back to short shifting......leaving the Estate in 3rd (140mph gear) costs about 3 seconds per lap....since you are lugging to 2500rpm or less in the slowest corners....but I haven't tried it on the slicks either...

but, your right, 3rd was non existant. like it was gated out.

I calibrated my speedo with a radar gun, with a cop friend of of mine. the speedo is now accurate with 26" tires. there is some variance car to car.
dont trust the tach, its off too. mine hits the rev limiter a shade over 6300rpm, which is more accurate. THEN, i also calibrate the speeds witih the cup cars that run the same times or im tailing around thunderhill, to the same speed of 130mph. no other changes, the holbert car would run 120mph+ and i guarantee would run arond the estate like it was standing still down the main straight.
its all guess work, until you calibrate and compare. the widow wasnt hitting 130mph, thats for sure. I also hit the rev limiter with the holbert car in 4th at road america, which is 155mph, and i dont think it was off , because if im wrong, by the amount you are claiming , i would be at 165 and that is not possible with the 320rwhp i had and the distance of their straights.
go do the math again , and mark this post.
the bucket is 115mph down the straight max
the widow was 120 down the striaght
and the stroker 928 with 70 more hp than the widow is 130. i gained 10mph down the straight. for the distance and power changed, this is right in line.
then, compare it to 1:55 to 1:58ish cup cars and see ther telemtry for speed. you will see they dont hit over 130mph
i also have the print outs from the telemtry of the cars ive been nose to tail with with boat loads of hp. (like Kents evo) ill show you the top speed on every straight. the bucket is not hitting 120mph. calibrate your RPM, and do the math on the tire diameter and you will get the answer.

take a look at dave and i forgot this other guys name, but he has a GT3 like 996
201 lap times at thunderhill . speeds down the main straight are around 127mph and kink, sub 100. (and there are no RX8 that can hang with street tires by the way. )
the same car but from my rear cam a year earlier running 2:00
rylan in the 350rwhp s2000 with the blower. notice, 100mph at the kink, 120mph down the straight, and 2:01 lap time best. (same as the holbert car)
http://www.gofastvideo.com/video/926...Rylan-Vs-Randy
rylan with 500rwhp running 1:55 !!!!!!! 135mph down the main straight, 105 at the kink
http://www.gofastvideo.com/video/194...55-Lap#playvid
and probably the most accurate video comparison, as it has my car in it for a couple of laps against the supercharger S2000 with near 350rwhp
even scot is on this video at 15:00 in. my car around 10min in.
http://www.gofastvideo.com/video/925...CA-ITE#playvid
you learn so much from these videos above. they are well calibrated, they match what others have seen, and they clearly show that the estate cannot reach 120mph down the main striaigh, and a RX8 cannot get 115mph at the kink on street tires.

I was just about to suggest this.......
My Rumble Strip GPS does hit 120mph in the bucket.....I typically stop looking at it just past start finish tower where it shows 117-118 then switches to lap time....I stay flat until about the 2.5 marker....so another 1-2 seconds easy...

The cup car and ryans rig are all calibrated and seem to be dead on. plus, ive calibrated mine with the radar gun locally at 50 and 80mph, and have been against all the cars on the video. there is no evidence to show that ll 3 very expensive systems are inaccurate and there are more too. the bucket is not hitting 120mph. if it is, the holbert car was going 130mph and the stroker is going 140mph and its not, we all know that. Ill check your RPM outtput with an analizer when i see you next , the rest is just 3rd grade math. the tachs are notoriusly bad. even the new holbert replacement stroker, hits 6kRPm and kind of hangs up and moves strangly to the hiGher RPM, BUT at the dyno, the rpm can be matched very accurately, as thats how it determines HP. you dont have a rev limiter, so you are limited by visual comparisons. i hit the rev limiter, and that never matches the 6600rpm on the tach.
the traqmate data will only be as good as the parameters that have been plugged in. you get .5" wrong on the tire diameter and you will create a large error.

when we get on the track again, we can play around with this , and get it on film too!
have fun!

Traqumate uses gps for speed.
I'm suprised at how small the difference in straight away speed actually is.
We should be able to match Scotts times with the new cars it should be fun trying at least. I'm looking foward to having a couple of evenly matched cars for sparring matches and both chassis and driver developement.

I dont know much about the traqumate systems, but if it uses GPS, it should be pretty accurate.
what i do know is what i see at the track, and scot car, my car, the cup cars, new 911s , made to be like cup cars, like Carlos' video here , as well as the real fast guys. 1-2 mph is a huge difference down the main straight, you have to picture someone walking by you . (literally) if you see this, they generally have a lot more power than you. so, in the end, we are all prett close as far as top sped down the main straight. at a long track like mosport, RA, the difference is tremendous.

It will be LOTS of fun to get both euros out there....
