Killer score Brian, Betty's car is a flawless build. I think it's got a later tranny in it. Colin would know, I think he helped to install it. I've had the honor to drive both, I can only hope my OB Track car ends being anywhere near as track worthy as either of those racers.
Sad to see them go, but glad to see them go to a good home. Hopefully we'll be able to get 4 PacNW racers to join you guys next season.

Maybe with some slicks you can give Kibort a run for his money

Thats the plan.....might be able to run the Pirelli Cup rears too.....305/680-18..which is way too tall...but the 2.75 rear end makes it a bit better.....

Hey Brian, nice buy.
I am sorry but I have to ask, ... will it run on Amsoil

Sweet looking car man but the name should be "Brians By you"

Gorgeous machine Brian. I was drooling over that car when it was originally for sale. White is my absolute Favorite 928 color. As far as 928s go, the racecars are as close to the vintage R gruppe 911's as I've seen. A dream someday to build a 928 this way.... Off on a tangent.. Great purchase and keep us informed.

Kan't tell for sure from the pics, is it the car or Ken's wife that's supposed to be "pristine?"

it will run on amsoil.....love that stuff

Its hard to argue with 77 hours on track on a used 117k motor.....clearly it works....

all you are buying is a car that isnt so jacked up, with a stick (and a little hp gained). i bet the estate will be faster for a while, even with slicks.

Thunderhill Times of the old part euro US 5.0 of mine was 2:04.1 with the stock US bottomend and Ljet flappy with hoosiers R3s (badly used)

5.0 Holbert car was 2.01.8
6.4 stroker 1:58.8
'79 stock with bilstein konis stilll running cats : 2:10 with 275 and 305 rears

Brakes are GTS fronts and S4 rear...don't know pads

Suspension is custom valved bilsteins with 800-500 springs and custom front roll bar...stock rear bar with drop links S4 parts

weight...not sure, but probably in the low 2700's maybe high 2600's from looking at the pics.....

I plan on putting an OB oil pan (it should have one already) + 3/8th spacer in it asap (check bearings too)....and making another airdam like the estate has for it.....
very optimistic. we had a good running 4.5 with scot, 220rwhp and swaped out the 4.5 for a 4.7 euro, and all the euro stuff ,euro heads, intake, plennum including high lift cams with a 4.7 euro bottom end, still only made 250rwhp with 200CCs more. you would be lucky to produce 250rwhp with a 4.5 with high lift cams alone, and intake, even with aftermarket EFI.

weight, with bumpers still in, you even still have the battery box, so i would say mid 2700s empty weight as a guess.

The kiln red racer, was what we ran at laguna. I remember we had no gear box, only one gear 4th. I even think that gear box was a early 2.75 as well. still was able to click off a 1:45.xx at laguna with only one gear. that was a 4.7 with the euro stuff on it., but the ride height was all jacked up at the time and skinnny 245 tires at the time too. that was a long time ago! thats the weekend that joe and mark andeson both broke. fan broke timing belt, and mark broke a transmission.

2:04.1 for scotts car is my target....I have no doubts that the Estate pulls far more G's that scotts car & I assume the new car will too, once I get it setup the way I like, in other words exactly like the estate the extra HP will drop times....I am at 2:06.52 right now...with either 198whp-233torque or 215-256 depending on which dyno you believe....both are far worse than scotts 293whp...

While there isn't a dyno sheet for it, its on track performance is on par with Chucks 4.7L euro (current setup) and John Davis 4.7L euro....so it must be at least 250whp.... still a HUGE gain for me, even more considering I get a whole extra gear I can use.....right now I have 2 gears....85mph and 140mph....the manual will have 65mph (only T11), 89 mph & 120mph...Since I currently hit over 100mph before 9, before 10, back straight and touch 120mph on the front straight I think I will actually use 5th on the main straight!!!!

Brian
You could up shift to 5th to give the engine a break but I would just leave the Widow in 4th. and hold 5500 on the last 1/3 of the main straight. About 130MPH. I found when I shifted from 4th to 5th The car just fell on its face and had no acceleration. Then you have to drop 2 gears going into 1. 3rd gear was 100MPH gear in the Widow it was a bit short for the run into 2 but again I would just hold it at 5500 for the last part of the down hill shoot into 2. I tried to eliminate as much shifting as possible. Sometimes I would do the whole track in 3rd & 4th. Other times I would down shift to 2nd in 11 & 14 but it didn't really make any difference to the time.
Maybe MK could share what gears he likes in Which corner but he has way more torque,....................... I meant Horsepower.

Can't wait to get all three cars in the garage so we can get some real data.

you cant get to 130mph with any of the cars discussed here. the holbert car running 2:01.8 wit its stock 5 liter , got to just a tad over 120mph. with a stroker, 130mph, and one time 140 with a screaming tail wind. (one time in 3 years )

Its hp, and by reving out the engine, you grab more HP off the turn and down the straight. my car, with a flat HP curve, can be much more forgiving to a short shift. the holbert car, was not a flat HP curve, so it paid to rev it out because of HP, not engine torque. its all about average HP you take advantage of (or rear wheel torque, if you want to go through the extra calculations as you would agree im sure)

I tried short shifting the holbert car with the stroker, and even with its greater engine torque, my times suffered by 1 second a lap compared to the stock 5 liter. it wasnt til i got over the precieved torque advantage and drove it like i did with less HP, did i gain the 1 second a lap , over the older car immediately. (everyone saw this comparison with the strokers first outing out, with no other changes and a 1 month engine install)
later after i got the brakes to handle the extra hp, i was able to get an average of 1.5 to 2 seconds for the 50 hp gain and the better brakes and biggger tires.

short shifting or holding rpm, wont get you around the track very fast. you got to get quick with the shifts. think about this way, if you were holding the RPM at "5500" down the turn 1 to turn2 straigth and I wasnt, i would run by you like you were standing still. trust me, when you are ringing the max out of the car and you just shift slow, your compeitor just run right by.

now, with the estate compared to my old part euro 5 liter or scots car, 2:04 is just about 2 to 3 seconds faster. about 60hp , which is about what you see as the difference now. However, the gear box will give you the extra gear, so thats proably an avereage of about 10% more hp applied.

one thing for sure, it wont be much faster than scots car with slicks, but i would love you prove me wrong! lets see it!

as far as gear selection a thunderhill. i use 3rd all the way from the apex of turn 1 all the way to the "hill" and its a quick short shift down the hill, so not a real needed shift, but when racing, its needed to protect the line and late trail brake for the entry of the "hill"., then, its 3rd all the way to the entrance of turn 8 "KINK" and an upshift to 4th just before a blib downsift trail brake to 3rd at 10, and out to 4th to turn 10 . 3rd into 10, 2nd into 11, and through the gears to 13, downshift twice to 2nd again and through the gears out to the main straight and near 5700 in 4th down the main straight to 130mph. and no faster. only the 550hp monsters are getting to 140 dow the main straigtht.
