That is a problem but is it the problem that's causing the noise? Was the belt so loose that it was "flapping" and making the noise?

Belts tight. I don't think that's the noise, but it's not good either. I have spare gears ( not as worn). But I'll hold of judgement till I get the cam off

WOW! That's almost as bad as the gear can get and still run. Somebody ignored the gears at the last belt job.

Some serious neglect there. What's the timing belt history on this car? I'd be worried about everything on this car and getting caught up on a lot of maintenance. Probably has chocolate brake, power steering and tranny fluid.

actually, new clutch 8k ago, and the engine is the only thing i have not replaced. new PS everything, new brakes, new (redone trans) front and rear bushings.... once i do a motor, all will have been replaced.

I'm tempted to pull this thing....

yup. i decided that this weekend/ next week at my buddies shop we are going to pull it. to much wrong with this one to spend the money fixing it, when i could use that cash to finish my hybrid.

when she is out, any special things i should look at or replace?

Green wire looks good.

Once its out, much easier to evaluate, maybe grab some compression numbers first.

How many 928's do you have?
