BTW I also do have the C&R all aluminum radiator (with side tanks). I have never had any water temp issues - there seems to be plenty of excess capacity in the C&R. When I added the side tank oil cooler it made basically no difference to water temps.
While I had this issue I did experiment with declutching to engine idle while at speed - not a major issue then - always clearly worse when stopped at idle - takes a few momemts after slowing to a stop for it to drop off.

i get it, you see brian gets it too (over 3 bar for idle and HOT different gauge, but stock sending unit.).. so, what are you guys guaging your discovery on ?? ive had 5-6 race cars and street cars , all run over 3 bar hot oil pressure. BUT, all of them are running near 1000rpm idle so that is the possible difference.
all i know is that all of these cars, running amsoil, in 110+ temps, on the race track with oil temps up over 260F during a race and over 240 by the time im in the pits, the oil pressure is 3 bar min. (at 1000rpm)

Later 928's had only an external oil cooler that was mounted right under the radiator. Earlier 928's had only an oil cooler integrated into the radiator. The consensus is if you have just the radiator oil cooler, you should be fine. The cars that have only the external cooler are the topic of this discussion.

so would there be any advantage in connecting the two up??

Yes, that is what is being proposed in this thread. I don't think there is any down side to having both the radiator cooler and external cooler in series, it can only help.

Agree with Dan. On both my street & track turbo 928's I have rear oil coolers: actually have mocked up a proto kit that works whatever cars will accommodate, so far only fitted on an 82, 86.5 & an 88, but have a GT in for a turbo so will test it there too. Basic oil cooler, fan, 20' of -10an line, fittings to replace the radiator oil cooler. Sits in Driver's rear tire well. Hasn't been hot enough to verify how well it works, but should suffice.
