Thoughts on vintage Porsche's

The 928 is Lightening in a Bottle.
It's creation is one of those very rare moments in time where the ingenuity of man and the elements of nature have been captured together in one instant to be re-lived over and over again in a very real and visceral way by those fortunate enough to own one, yet vulnerable enough to open themselves to the emotional elation and technical wonder that eminate from these cars.
But again, I may be slighlty biased.

I don't know why but at times I find myself browsing the internet for vintage Porsche's. If I look at old 911's and 924's they just look really dated to me. However if I look at 928's, 944's and 968's they look really cool to me. Is that common among 928 owners? I don't tell my wife this but I have thoughts of selling my 07 Boxster and buying a really nice 944 or 968. Is this normal? Thoughts?
Here is a for instance. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...#ht_500wt_1182
This car looks really sweet to me.

That is a sweet-looking 951 in the auction. It might be worth the day's drive for you to go put eyeballs on it before you bid though. And see if you can enlist a current 951-owning 'lister to go with you.
I don't keep a finger on 944/951 market trends, so you get to do some homework on that part of the decision process. I'd expect that the 951, like the 928, is a car where spending well initially on the best car you can find will reap serious rewards down the road of ownership. In my limited experience, it's a whole lot cheaper and easier to keep a nice car nice as opposed to making a second-rate one nice again.

And to think I almost posted:
"928 - Yeah its basically a German Corvette."
Nothing beats a vintage Porsche, although I don't really think of the 928 as vintage I guess technically the pre S4's are now.
I've been lucky enough to drive some exotic machinery , and I must say, nothing does it for me like a 928. Really, not even close. I'm hooked.

Here is the 07 Boxster S, 18,000 miles
I appreciate all of the insight. I think for now I will enjoy both cars as much as I can. This car is an absolute blast to drive. When the weather is nice, which is often here in Texas you can't stop smiling while you drive it. I know you can get these easily but the fun factor makes this car a joy to drive and own. If you don't really like 911's like me but want a modern era Porsche, this one is the one to get. If I need to sell it at some point, I hope I can get another Porsche. I know I need a better picture, this one was taken when the stripe was going on the driver side.

An understandable sentiment.
Ditto, except that, even when I was a lean, mean soldier, long ago, my roomy's XKE was too small for me to drive comfortably. I loved it but my feets' too big.

Just a few lines and then I need to get back to the other forum and keep my head down low to miss the flames going my way. I have driven a few of these cars and like them alot what I have now does not come close in power. My 964 will be far in the back of the pack but for vintage P cars nothing better than a older 911. Seems like after the 964 the driving feeling was lost. Sure the cars are alot faster but you have to look down to see it.
Driving my 964 is nothing but ear to ear grins all the time .... Now going back to the other forum looking left and right ...
