Default Alternative O2 Sensor?

I've searched the "O2 Sensor" threads and cant find what I need - if one exists. I'm looking for an alternative (yes, I mean cheaper) O2 Sensor than the stock Bosch - currently priced at Autozone for $89.00 and I'll have to order it and pay in advance.

Not a BIG deal price wise, but was wondering if we had any alternatives. Of course it has to WORK well or I wont waste my time, $$ & effort. If you know of another O2 sensor for an 86.5 dual exhaust with cats - please speak up.

If none exist - please speak up and I'll bite the bullet & head over to A.Z.

Thanks!

I wonder if there is any advantage in going to a wide band in an 86.5? I believe 87 and later you need it for sharktuning.

You can get the universal type and splice it in. This one includes special water proof splice cover but I think you won't need it if you splice it inside the passenger compartment.

The "parts expert" at Autozone recommended NOT using the universal one "because if you wire it wrong you'll fry your computer..." Any truth to that? Or is it obvious how to splice it in?

Thanks!

Get a factory one that goes in without splicing.

Seen too many universals have issues

I should have added I don't recommend the universal either, just giving him an option for him to consider. The regular Bosch unit is $73 on Amazon, at least for my 89. Might even be cheaper elsewhere if that matters. 928 International has something they call "universal" but it is shown with a plug, for $60. http://www.mailordercentral.com/928i...928 606 128 UN

Thanks guys... Something that works and is cheaper is the object of the thread but not if it aint gonna work. Trading a few bucks for a maybe/sometimes piece of equipment isnt the way to go when hooking it up to the LH... I was hoping there were other manufacturer's sensors that would work on the car but doesnt sound like it... Not a big deal - the good news is its not listed as NLA Headed to A.Z. in the a.m.

Thanks again for the info & suggestions!

This is a Bosch and has been working perfectly for almost a year.
It has an additional wire, ground, which on a 928 is really helpful.
Splicing kit and excellent instructions included.
928 S4 O2 sensor replacement:
Porsche 928.606.128.01/replaced/w Bosch 15733 4 wire universal, O2-two whites=heater, black=signal, gray=ground-928 is 3wire system, add ground wire to bonding point above relay panel.
This works for me. Sensor looks and performs identical to stock.
Dont have pics, but can take some this weekend.

Dave, Thanks... no pictures necessary. I've seen both (stock & universal). Appreciate it

Wide band O2 is about $50 on amazon by the Bosch number, but you need a $200 box to read it and convert a narrow band output for the brains to use.

Joel - If you happen to read this before you install it, could you please measure the length of the wires and post it here? Becuase of where my x-pipe's bung hole is, I need a sensor with a little longer wire than what I currently have. And, my check engine light came on last week... Thanks / Bruce

Roger has them for around $112.00. Plug and play...no splicing...no worries.
