Lower Outer Window Seals - Installation Testing
Every time a customer asks me for the price of the wiper seal on the outside of the door window - I cringe and say $160. That's $320 for a pair. I need them for my own cars because they have shrunk or cracked, put at that price Porsche can keep them.
Well one of our European customers has developed a replacement seal that is very cost effective.
I will be shortly receiving 35 sets of new seals which will sell for $110 per set of two. Yes you heard me right $110 for a set of two seals. The quality is excellent and in my opinion better than the Porsche supplied seals.
I am looking for three 928 owners who will be willing to receive a set of seals free of charge and install them. Reporting back on their experience and offering positive or negative feedback on the acceptability and ease of installation. Of importance to me is that the installation takes place within two weeks maximum of receipt of the seals. If you cannot meet that criteria please do not apply for a set. I also would like to receive pictures of the installation and notes – good or bad – about the overall installation process.
Please email me at roger@928srus.com if you are interested.
If you want to be on the waiting list for a set of seals – if successful the list will fill up fast – let me know to the same email.
I am already confident this will be 110% successful as they have already been supplied and fitted in Europe.

Roger, my widebody will be ready to spray within the next couple of weeks. I just installed the factory seals on my 82 about a year ago so I have a reference point for how difficult the factory seals are to work with. I will be happy to be a tester.
Edit: Nevermind. I am not willing to guarantee that they will be installed within two weeks. I'm not 100% in control of the pace on this project. Please post a pic of the seal when you get them in. I'd like to see what the differences are.

I recently replaced both outer seals on my '90 with the factory $$$ seals. The first one took me 1 hour start to finish. The second was a quick 30 minutes. I lubed the bottom lip that wraps around the lower edge of the metal bracket inside the door and the spline that fits in the slot across the top with Dow Corning 111, a non-hardening silicone lube. I was able to start the bottom edge of the front end of the seal back from the end of the window channel a couple of inches and get 4-6 inches of the lower edge started. Then I used a Popsicle stick to get the spline engaged along the top about the same distance. The lube not only made the lower edge and spline easy to get engaged correctly, but I could slide the entire seal fore and aft to get it correctly positioned. To complete, I basically stuffed the seal down into the door between the glass and the trim and got the full length of the lower edge engaged with the metal frame, then pressed the spline into the groove working front to rear. Once it was all in I was still able to slide the whole thing forward and back to get the positioning just right with regard to the rear curve. After reading all the stories here I was prepared for a lot more drama. If you can't find or don't have any Dow 111 try any water based "personal lubricant" or check the plumbing aisle of the hardware store for a small container of silicone based o-ring grease.

Haha I sent a pm before scrolling. Enjoy the tests, guys! I did the driver side a few years ago and pulled everything to do it.
My plastic screwdriver might be the most versatile tool I own. I'll need to find a replacement before it's gone. I've adapted it with the grinder to dozens of jobs like this because it's soft enough not to scratch paint when you slip, but pointy enough to pry, prod and reshape!
