Another new shark owner
Hello, My name is jim from dallas and I'm another new 928 owner (ended up going with a 88 s4 5spd *red/black w/ 60k *in fairly good shape that has a few nice upgrades).
I'm starting off real slow as far as working on the car myself*in that I've learned lessons the hard way w/ another p-car I owned in HS (spent most of its life with me in an auto cocoon in my parents front yard and costing me $$$$ to fix the things I screwed up ..if anyone cares it was a 914/6).*
I've already meet with Sean R. About addressing some immediate regular maintenance items i don't yet feel comfortable doing myself...as well as a couple of upgrades. He's not only regarded as an expert in this forum but also came highly recommended from local PCA members(big smooch u know where).
I've also ordered a couple of items I think I maybe able to tackle myself as a 928 newbie...again I'm taking baby steps because of lessons learned. *The first of many is a lock detail kit (replacing the black film/plastic around the key locks).*It did come w/ some instruction but wanted to see if I could get some insight from anyone that's done it already. I've searched for posting but hadn't found anything...if someone could share any experience they have had w/ this procedure or point me to a thread I will be in your debt (believe me when I say I will do my best to return the favor).
Also looking into a rims/tires upgrade, new sound system and shark tuning. If anyone in the area needs a hand working on their shark or doesn't mind me looking over their shoulder please PM me. I'm looking to learn as much as I can about the car (is really my sons new car buts he's only 3 so I will be needing to drive and maintain it right for awhile ...and hopefully in time teach him to do the same).

Welcome to the community, Jim.
Plenty of good and very knowledgeable 928 guys up in Dallas.
Hope to see you at one of the meetings/gatherings during the coming year.
And yes, post a few pics of your 928 here.

Here's a thread on using the door lock detail kit vs. painting. I did the vinyl detail kit 5 years ago and it looks like the day I installed it, though that's only 8000 miles of driving.

Hey Jim, glad to see you posting.
He's got a fantastic car.
As to the locks. Pull them out, sand it down, grab a nickle and place it over the key section and spray paint it. Let dry, put back in, bingo done.

So, I'm curious about the 'to-do' list (ie needs/not wants) on a car that rates fantastic!
I can guess, but....
Very nice find, btw, appears to have benefitted from a great deal of care & upkeep.

Nice car AND you're in a great area for support (Roger, Sean, Jim, Herman, etc.) and friends. You'll probably meet a guy named Stretch--stay away from tech sessions he leads at 928 get-to-gethers.
