I have 3 cheap ($8) yearly subscription offers in front of me for Motor Trend, Road & Track and Car & Driver. I like Peter Egan and the racing coverage in Road & Track and the spicy editorial responses in Car & Driver. I used to love the mechanical how to articles in Hot Rod when I was younger. What do you guys read and why? Gunar

Also books like Tom Cotter's The Cobra in the Barn are so cool.

I use to get them when I was young and wanted every cool sports car on the cover. These days I have absolutely no car envy, (have the one I always wanted) and with the internet no need or time to read about so many other cars.

Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car is by far my favorite car magazine. Plus one of our RL's had his car featured and on the front cover of a recent issue.

Hemmings Sports & Exotics (my new favorite), R&T(far from as good as it used to be, long time subscriber), Autoweek (wish it was still weekly, good race coverage), MotorTrend has a good editor now and C&D is OK. Maybe I should take another look at Excellence, isn't it mostly water-cooled 911s?

I had been subscribed to Excellence and European Car. Both good for project stuff. I have a thing for hot-rod 911s also, and there is usually something like that in excellence.

I get C&D, R&T, MotorTrend, Automobile, and Hemmings Sports & Exotic. Hemmings S&E keeps me on the can the longest, by far.
Been getting C&D since the mid 70's and still have most issues since then. It is not what it used to be.

Of the glossies, I always liked Automobile the best. But all of them are afraid to criticize their advertisers.

I kind of like a newer Porsche only magazine called Classic Porsche Magazine. I've only found it at Borders and it's pretty expensive ($13). It's a UK mag I think. I have most of the issues and even though it is supposed to feature "classic" Porsches, I have yet to see an article on a 928. ![hiha](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/roflmao.gif)
(I'm looking for a reasonably priced #1 issue)

Hemmings Sports & Exotics, and Sports Car Market. I also subscribe to R&T, at long as Peter Egan is still writing for them. Car and Driver keeps auto-renewing without my permission and sending me bills, so I've stopped paying. But it keeps coming. Sad.

- R&T mainly because of Peter Egan (I have every issue since the late 70's)
- Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car
- Motor Trend Classic
- Rat Rod
- Grassroots Motorsports
- Top Gear
- European Car
- Vintage Motorsports
Some of the best car books I've read:
- Cannonball - Documents the first decade of the real Cannonball Run (with 928 content)
- The Last Open Road - the first part in an excellent series by B.S. Levy telling the story of a country boy in the 50's discovering sports cars and working his way up the ranks at the birth of the sports car scene. Puts a fictional character in real historic events. You cannot go to a vintage car event without seeing "The Last Open Road" stickers on the back of some very high end vintage cars.
- The Unfair Advantage - by Mark Donohue
- Cobra In The Barn
- A French Kiss With Death - about the filming of LeMans
- The Racing Life Of Paul Newman
- Andretti
I'll skip making a list of generic car books or this is going to be a really long post
